Not necessary, original belt will outlast V6 engine. IMHO.

Quite right. Later -55 on- have a very poor spec. Not even a rear ash tray, cigar socket, no cruise etc. They do of course have sun roofs ( Which only last a couple of years).

I wonder what crankcase breather filter a kit of parts would supply for a TD4? It would certainly not be the BMW part that I would require.

Why buy a kit? One doesn't change oil filters at the same frequency as air filters. IMHO it is best and possibly cheaper to buy individual items.

Personally I love Freelanders and delighted with mine. I am however allergic to the letter K.

Don't change the belt. It is a robust belt that will probably last out the car. A belt we took off at 70k miles and 8 years was perfect. The V6 is such a fragile engine that will probably manage to break itself without help from the cambelt. Not many make 100k so why spend £600 on a belt change...

Have now fitted to two TD4's. BMW part numberB11.12.7.799.367 @ £22. No problem with fitting. No point in using old style filter at approx same price.

My objection to Kwik-Fit is their exorbitant tyre prices. If someone is getting value from their oil changes good luck to them.

Don't dispute what you say but - recently went to see a 'for sale' TD4. The seller said it had just had an oil change at Kwik Fit. Looked at dipstick, the oil was filthy! Incidentally my Millers full synth (Trident 5W40) costs £15 per 5 litres (car takes 6) and filter is £4.03. I must admit I...

IIRC this method has been suggested before except no cardboard, spring the tray down for the oil to run in. To me it's all a bit messy and I don't want one drop of black oil on the floor. Surely a hole cut in the undertray is simple and effective for those who want to take out the drain plug...

I normally slide the intercooler hose out from the sensor to give more space to lift out the filter assy. Probably try your idea next time. Although with a hole in the undertray an oil change on a TD4 is easy I intend to make it easier still by sucking out the oil in future. With 6 litres of...
