Td4 very rough and smokey engine

i knew it was too good to be true. Hippo running very well up until this morning when it started feeling low on power at all speeds. First noticed it was a bit sluggish up a slight hill on a dual carriageway at 70, and noticed some smoke following me. Nearly home so pressed on and found it...

    Facelift instrument cluster repair

I discovered I had my amigo LEDs plus handbrake led butchered by the previous owner. I replaced the LEDs with standard 12v ones, didn't mess about with surface mount. Was difficult getting the iron in place but managed. If you try it yourself, little tip: use blu tack to hold the led body in...

    2002 td4 freelander original vcu

Got a feeling my 02 TD4, 130,000 odd miles had its original. Was very stiff (locking inner wheel on bends). Changed it pronto.

    Webasto Fuel Pump Dosing Pump

On the plus side, if it was ticking away your glowpin could be OK. The FBH checks the resistance of it before it starts the pump. Mine was no good and it never tried to pump fuel, just shut itself down.

    Webasto Fuel Pump Dosing Pump

I don't think a water heater would be the best option for heating your garage. Takes a lot of energy to heat water, then it needs a radiator to, err, radiate the heat. Fine to help the engine but for a space like a garage I think you would be better off with an air heater like an eberspacher D2...

    getting paronoid

That's the thing with forums, you never get anyone posting that they don't have a problem or their cars running fine. It's a bit like you never hear good reviews, just bad. But hey, right now my car is running well so quite happy with my freeby. ****, that's gone and ruined Christmas!

back with a freelander, back with issues

Pipe - Mine fell off when I blanked my egr. There's a small manifold block almost directly under the egr on the engine, you should be able to feel the pipe the flexi goes into, it points toward the radiator (I think there's another pipe from the vacuum tank feeding it too, from the other end)...

    Blenheim Silver

Mines Blenheim silver too. It (to me) is silver but others have said it looks gold. It does have a slight yellow in some lights though.

Hooked up my remote start for the webasto. Just need to run the fan power now and I'm ready for frosty mornings.

Q for those with Webasto Thermo Tops

You may have a dodgy glow pin. Short answer is the webasto changes its function once the heater is running. On start up it ignites the fuel but once running it monitores the resistance of the pin to check it's still hot enough to ignite the fuel. As yours is getting hot and then cutting out, it...

Freelander 1 What's This Lead & Plug Please?

Yeah FBH is the fuel burning heater. You'll know if you have one if there's a pipe sticking out of the near side bumper area (or if the bumper is still off its situated between bumper "iron" and the front near side wheel. If you don't have a FBH it could still be the wiring for the sensor (I'm...

Freelander 1 What's This Lead & Plug Please?

Looks a lot like the plug for the ambient air temperature switch if you have a Webasto fbh fitted. Is it a TD4?

That's what a lot of camper and have for their leisure batteries, little digital meter with a "test" button.

    2 volt meters

You've got it right, you can only check your second battery with the engine off (relay open).

    diesel burner

A bit of smoke is ok, if it's belching like a VW then you could think about giving it a clean inside the combustion chamber. They aren't difficult to work on so long as you avoid damaging the gauze or glow pin inside the combustion unit...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Winter is coming. So I finally got my FBH working. To date it needed a new dosed pump (was a rusty mass), new burner unit (glow pin out of spec and mine isn't available separately) and while I was at it I fitted the new "more precise" temp sensor (JWL000020). Tested it 3 times, first time got...

Freelander 1 new toys on ebay for frea the freelander

Garmin make a hud that connects to your smartphone through Bluetooth. Looks quite similar to LR's own display too. Doesn't give obd diagnostics but gives gps speed and basic directions.
