    lpg problems

Yep that is how I installed mine from the outset and I have never had frozen vapourisor. People will tell you it is incorrect to do it this way but the only real downside I can think of is that the engine takes a bit longer to reach optimum temperature. Glad you're sorted. Cheers Chris

    power loss/misfire/petrol heamorage...

Fair enough on the MOT. Last time I went to the place I have been going to for 20 years with my bobtail, I had to virtually prove I had disabled the petrol side cos the wanted to test both fuels. It wouldn't have mattered as its a '77 car. On the Tune Select Resistor Q, I'm sorry I haven't a...

    Running rougher everyday........

Not really. It takes much more power to start the motor than when it is actully running. Having said that, it won't help. Is the alternator charging the battery? From previous posts, it seems you have a Defender with a retro fitted 3.9 with a Holley carb. I know nothing about Holleys...

    power loss/misfire/petrol heamorage...

Are you sure about that? Running dual fuel, both systems should be tested. LPG is a non cat test but on petrol, non cat test is for cars up to '92. Having said that, my '94 Disco, without cats used to pass the cat test with room to spare:D On the earlier Q you asked, if you do have an...

    Q plate??

I don't think it will, assuming difflock off and in neutral. However on RRCs there is a plate on the dash that says something like 'Not to be used on rolling road or disconnect propshaft first'. I think this actually relates to a chassis dynonometer rolling road not brake rollers but I've...

    Hose

Hiya matey, I've got a parts book but I couldn't find the diaphragm in it:( However, when I fit the R380, you're welcome to mine. On the subject of vac hose, am I missing something? I don't remember it being anything special, just the same stuff as you have for the vacuum advance on he...

couple of qs about the bobtail

Without wishing to be contraversial, I'm not sure why you think most bobtails don't need an SVA except that this has now been replaced by the IVA which does cost £500+. If you Google 'bobtail SVA' or 'Bobtail IVA' you can find loads of stuff on this subject, most of it depressing:frown...

    will my exhaust fit???

The exhaust headers will be different and I'm pretty sure that there is a problem clearing the gearbox mounting. The 3.9 also has a larger bore in standard form. But hey, that's not to say it can't be done. Cheers Chris

    It might.....try it and see:D

    3.5 v8 with su's will not run

Nice theory and my be in the right direction but wrong on fact:doh: 1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2 My money is still on an ignition problem rather than carb though. Cheers Chris

For fooks sake its 2 steps forward and 3 back!

Hey, no probs although it doesn't sound like any of them were the 'magic bullet'. Hopefully Stuart will be able to do his thang and get you running again........other than that you could always convert to those SU's you're getting :D Nice to meet you BTW Cheers Chris

Ok I give up... how do I change the idle speed?

It is simple if you know what you are doing but explaining these things is often harder! To do the job properly, you need to disconnect the throttle transfer rod between the two carbs and do them individually, then reconnect the shaft, having adjusted its length so that it doesn't change the...

New V8 but need help with inlet fanny moulds...

As nobody else has answered this I'll give it a go......Can't say what you have got but I can say what you need. You should have two half inch or 5/8 inch water pipes front and rear. One of these will probably be a pipe that runs under the manifold from front to back. Looking at the front of...

    Still overheating, what next?

Hi Roger, Forget what I said:doh: I just checked a spare gasket and it is symetrical. In my defence, I've built a lot of different engines over the years but I haven't done a RV8 for a while. False Memory Syndrome! Sorry Chris

    Still overheating, what next?

Hi Roger, To bleed the system, you can get the vast majority of the air out by running up to temp with the reservoir cap off and then, at fast idle topping up and replace the cap. The engine should purge itself from then on so you might need to top up again a couple of days later. But...

Sorry, memory aint what it used to be! I've seen them advertised on the interweb somewhere recently but it might have been an old reference....... possibly Rimmer Bros. Cheers Chris

    3.5 v8 with su's will not run

So transplanting a 200TDI is easier than getting a carb V8 running:doh: I don't think so. In my view, don't go with the Zeniths, you are just introducing another variable into an already baffling problem. To be honest, you have to try pretty hard for even the dodgyest SU not to work to...

    Which fuel pump for a 3.5L V8 (P6)?

Hmm Fuel pump doesn't need that much pressure or flow so I would have thought the existing one would be ok if it was supplying a V6. The best replacement would be the early Rangie pump which was a Facet. Paddocks do an unbranded copy for about £35. It is gravity fed (although it will...
