more mpg out of a 2.5?

Sorry wammers you got that out quicker than me... had to have a coffee and rest my typing finger.

more mpg out of a 2.5?

Sounds correct to me: when cruising you`re just burning the fuel to overcome air resistance (& a little mechanical friction). The power box is having no effect on this. Remember tho that air resistance is a function of the square of the speed. (double speed = 4 times air resistance). The...

more mpg out of a 2.5?

That would seem to make sense. The difficulty in lots of these posts is lack of reliable info: mpg off the trip-computer is obviously useless as you`ve already said; and mpg calculated full to full should be several times and be controlled for inconsistencies (do it few times making no changes...

Manual larger aftermarket intercooler into auto TD5 Disco

No, sorry, not done it myself. Why you putting bigger intercooler on? Got a bigger turbo to bolt on?

    'New' P38 preventative maintenance

Fully agree with with Wammers on that. Plus get a few hours reading on "EAS faults".... But Wammers is wrong about perpetual motion machines tho`. (your mpg post). I`ve invented one, it`s a surefire business oppoptunity, and I`m looking for investors....

Driveline, gearbox or diffs noise!! but which one.

With g-box whine expect more noise when the transmission is thoroughly warm, and the oil thins out. (Take a good half hour or more to do this, not just coolant temp). Also try dipping clutch when stationary in neutral: change in noise= gearbox.

    P38 Air Suspention

Best to look at "rswsolutions" site first and try and work your way thro he problem systematically...... BUT if you want a quick fix you MAY be lucky.. when washing off te car did you get a lot of water around the EAS driver pack? It may be that it`s acting up cause of that. If so wait for it...

    fishsponge's ongoing thread of problems!

As above. Or save up for a set of cheap remoulds on steel rims for off-roading, and use Scorpions or whatever on your alloys??

Please help I am worried after being given some advice

So long as your turbo has a good supply of clean oil (frequent oil & filter changes) and clean air (frequent filter changes), there shouldn`t be too much to worry about.

You`re saying it`s noisy at m-way speeds? What sort of noise? Engine/transmission/wind/tyres?

    Headlining and dash diming question

Headlining, one day single handed. Make sure you get fabric wide enough, 152cm? And 2 cans high temp spray. Try www,automobiletrim.com. Others available. Get old glue off totally or you`ll do it twice! Visc coupling: try putting a rolled up news paper in the blades: when cool this should stop...

    Thats it, it's fcuked!

Sounds interesting...... but of how many engines has he fixed with this method, and how many miles have they done? But sounds like a good idea that doesn`t cost a fortune so nowt to lose..

    4.6 HSE buying advice needed!

IMHO diesel every time, but if bennyhammer is prepared to pay extra in fuel for the performance & rumble of a big V8, it`s his choice. And at only 3-4k a year expected why not? The diesel is more reliable too, but at the age of these cars now a good V8 is gonna be better than an abused diesel...

    4.6 HSE buying advice needed!

OK, you want a petrol P38, so won`t waste time arguing about that. On original post you say 90k miles and suspension done. 90k is very low for year so is it backed up by old m.o.t.s etc? If genuine and well maintained the engine MAY be good for years to come yet, but don`t hold your breath...

    First land Rover!

Firstly, gotta agree with Matthew & Thebiglad: full service, no matter what history you have, then you KNOW you`re starting with a clean sheet. Make all servicing & checks in good time. But I`m worried on your original post about car slowing down more than you`d expect?? Given Discos have the...

Expansion tank cap full of gunk

From your first post: if your system was empty (on level ground) you`ve prob got a problem. How long since last checked before? No coolant loss on a long run makes me a bit more optimistic, but some leaks show at intermediate temperatures when warming/cooling.

    fishsponge's ongoing thread of problems!

Checking the "Tyre Bible", (recommended), 265/70/16 need 7.5 to 9 J rims, 245/75/16 are ok on 7 to 8.5 J rims. I think FreeStyles are 7" so 265/70s are not gonna be a correct fit on your existing wheels. Selling alloys and buying steels? Depends how much you sell/pay on the day. Fuel...

coolant blowouts on recent head job 300tdi

Could the header cap be blocked? So failing to release excess pressure from heating. More likely if coolant slightly overfilled. Cheap `n` easy to get a new `un. Not a definate fix but worth a punt.
