    Should I take the plunge??

Read a couple of threads on EAS diagnostics, and visit the www, rswsolutions site. Good P38s are great cars, but they can be prone to many electrical problems. A `97 is probably due for a lot of EAS work, if it`s not been done already.

    Tyre pressures help...

If you`re happy great, but I`m happier playing around a bit an` learning what effects different tyre pressures have.

Whirring from transmission area (not T-box Whine)

Trust you`ve checked oil levels in both main box an transfer box? If a manual box is the noise there when engine running in neutral? does it change if you dip the clutch, or only when moving? Under load or on aver-run?

    what to buy?

I had a P38 for about yrs. Now own a Disco. Air suspension is not the only issue on the P38; a good `un is a lovely drive but good`uns are hard to find now. Many have been bought by people who think, because they`re getting cheaper, thy`re gonna be cheap to run... they`re not. Many are being...

    Tyre pressures help...

I`m running on 235/70 x16. I find 33psi front and 36 rear works for me. Mixed main road/country road use. I do highly recommend Car Bibles : The Wheel and Tyre Bible Page 1 of 4 as an excellent Sunday morning read. Cuts thro` a lot of bull-**** and says a lot of good sense about pressures...

more mpg out of a 2.5?

Tony, as ever, has connected the business end of the impaction implement firmly onto the topmost section of the narrow, pointed shaft, to pierce the objective, with the minimum of prevarication. Could almost qualify as a carpenter....and restrained enough this evening to be a diplomat...almost..

    Clutch or Gearbox....?

I agree with all above, but try pumping clutch pedal (as you would brakes) first. Check it ain`t a fault on hydraulic side before dropping `box out??

    P38 Certificate of Conformity

I got my Certificate from LandRover in Paris. Cost 130euros if I remember, but that was about 6 yrs ago; s`pose it may have dropped in price..... or not.

    2" lift on td5

The generally accepted idea of a lift is to allow for bigger wheels; if you`re going this route, OK. But a lift alone will only raise your C of G making side slopes more hazardous, and road cornering slower, for no real advantage. The standard set up is already a good compromise for on/of road...

    P38 Stumbling is back!

I repeat I`ve not got RAVE to hand here, but isn`t the system closed at the cap with venting via the charcoal filter in the "evaporative loss emission system"?

more mpg out of a 2.5?

There`s figures `n` there`s figures.... but 44mpg is quite..... surprising.....!

    P38 Stumbling is back!

Vented filler cap? Thought P38s had a closed system?.... emissions laws. Stand to be corrected tho` not got RAVE to hand at mo`.

Driveline, gearbox or diffs noise!! but which one.

If it`s damaged replace it, but dunno if that`s the source of your noise? Try putting each axle in turn on strong axle stands and turning the wheels by hand. Look/feel/listen for any roughness or excessive backlash. Compare the two axles, and if possible compare with a known good `un. Make sure...

more mpg out of a 2.5?

Currently 70mph on motorways, but lots of traffic seems to go 75-80. There is some talk of upping the limit to 80, so a pan-european limit of 130kph seems on the cards. If you do try running a little slower, please keep us posted. Having a regular run like that you seem to be in an ideal...

    steering wobble

As I understand it the P38 & L322 have the same wheel studs fitted (same thread), but the L322 wheels have bigger diameter holes for the nuts to fit into, so L322 nuts must be used (as well as spigot rings) with L322 wheels.. Using P38 nuts will be unsafe. L322 nuts will not fit the holes in P38...

more mpg out of a 2.5?

Exactly so: dropping speed from 130 to 110 kph should make significant fuel savings. Dropping speed down to 50kph or 30 emms ain`t gonna do much better. Air drag at these speeds becomes increasingly less important. Just the same old "boring" "non-sexy" stuff like actually putting air in tyres...

P38 DSE leaking diesel + HEVAC fault

Agree with wammers: bodge it to-day... have to fix it properly next time. Result two fixes instead of one, and run around all the time not knowing if to-day`s the day the bodge is gonna fail? Your choice, but not for me.

Driveline, gearbox or diffs noise!! but which one.

Quick question; when changing fluids you did change oil in axles too? And what came out was (more or less) the correct quantity and type, with no metal fillings or muddy water? Not trying to teach my Grannie to suck eggs, but often overlooked.

    steering wobble

Also make sure you have the correct size wheel nuts. Fitting L322 wheels without spigots is like walking around in the boxes your new shoes came in your feet fit ibside but it ain`t a good fit. Same with the nuts, they need to fit correctly, not just fit on.
