    As you say yourself there is no "spring-rate". Any deflection due to load is compensated for by the system pumping in more air... And `tis spring here so my anorak is hung up `til november...I hope.

    With a warm engine, let it tick-over for a good 5minutes, then rev `er up; blue smoke points to shot turbo. With a cold engine pull off air pipe to turbo; if you can feel movement of shaft it`s bad news, ditto if it`s swimming in oil in there, but a moist oil film is normal.

    Faulty/weak lift pump?? When using the secondary fuel reservoir was this higher than the vehicle`s tank? Maybe a weak lift pump can`t supply enough fuel but with a gravity aided supply it can?

    If fuel is there, then shouldn`t there be white unburnt fuel coming out of exhaust?? Check fuel filter, and if you`re confident/competent, crack off an injector pipe to check fuel reaching injectors. Only use correct spanner tho` to avoid damaging tightly done up injectors.

    Do you get any messages at all on message centre? If none,try to provoke an "alarm fault" message by disconnecting sensor then locking car, unlocking and re-entering, car. I should show as a fault. (just to find out or not if message centre is actually working).

    To check for weak mixture keep an eye on your plugs` colour. Light/mid brown =good, no worries. Having had a K&N filter in the past I wouldn`t bother again: too messy to keep cleaning `em. Paper replaceable much easier for lazy gits like me.

    Checked with "http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg4.html" and changing from 255/55 18" to 255/60 18" will make a speedo reading of 70mph a genuine 73.4mph. Not a lot, but worth noting.

    Gearbox drain plug missing !!!

    Correct. That is a vent/drain to let out any oil that leaks into bell-housing, preventing oil gettingonto clutch. If lots of oil around check oil levels in engine (of course we all do) and in the gearbox. To check level in gearbox, remove level plug and put in oil until it comes out.

    IMHO: If your oil pressure light is coming on after startup then you`d be crazy to drive the vehicle more than you`ve got to until it`s sorted. Since you`ve replaced the switch you can safely assume it is working, except you don`t actually WANT to believe it. It is after all called a "Warning"...

    If fitting a "PSI" box or similar keep checking your m.p.g.figures without using the on-board computer. The box "fires" extra fuel into the system "dowmstream" of the computer so it`s not aware of fuel being used. Would agree wih you it`s best to sort out any under-lying problems before...

    Swopping a bigger intercooler in there will incrase nowt; except turbo lag. It will help as part of an upgrade including a bigger turbo and increased fuelling. Most cost effective mods could be a good service with new filters, or a 300tdi engine!
