    New Owner Seeking Advice

No offence meant, but I would caution against attacking carbs with screw-drivers and hope that you solve the problem without knowing first what is wrong. What carb is fitted? Then we can try to help you. Secondly the two fans..........can you post a picture now?

the similarities between Series3/90/Defender, Custom build?

Ok.....now you have clarified your position, which is a bit different from your intentions reading the first post. Will your vehicle still qualify for exempt status if you change the axles, engine, gearbox or will you have retained sufficient original or age related parts?.

the similarities between Series3/90/Defender, Custom build?

Just a thought, if you dislike everything about the Series III, why not just buy an old Defender, Rangie or Discovery for your custom build and save yourself a lot of time and energy trying to convert a Series III to something it was never supposed to be......................I actually prefer...

I think i have spotted the downside in the young un's cunning plan.........a big fook off polis german shepherd doesn't need IR or any thing else to find you in the bushes............it can just follow the odor of sh*te as you try to run away in your inch thick Blobby suit.:)

What shall i do with the V8 disco

Get yourself a free download of something like Photo-FX, then play around manipulating digital pictures of the car into a truck cab or bobtail and look at it from different angles to get a better idea of how it might look.

    How to prep and spray

Set a good example if you want people to consider it a guide, get the bonnet up onto trestles before you chew up the corners of the bonnet on the tarmac, it's also easier on the back and legs if it's raised to waist height for rubbing down, then the water doesn't run up your arm:)

What shall i do with the V8 disco

Not sure I'm following you on this approach, whats normal about welding the doors shut. Before destroying the car it may be a good idea to have a close look at some other examples and speak to owners to find out how they went about it, the problems and not least the costs. Then make...

I used to earn a bit on overtime many moon's ago spraying military vehicles which passed through our shop, normally after some squaddie had pranged them. Only criteria was paint had to be adulterated with a flatting agent, so nothing shined. I guess coatings technology has moved on since 'Danny...

So what exactly are we talking about here, paint which absorbs and retains radiant heat energy or a non reflective coating:confused:

    Some advice please...

To steal a phrase from someone else, 'You need a strong stomach and a fat wallet to own one of these'. You are lucky with labour quoted at $50 an hour, our main dealer is £79 an hour which at current conversion rates is close to $158:eek: .

Shop around and look at a few before parting with the cash. I see from your profile that this is not your first venture into elderly vehicles, it's just that project vehicles have a life of their own and either turns out to be a rewarding hobby or drives you to despair..............and as your...

    Some advice please...

Early LR3's are coming to end of warranty periods now, so up to now most owners would leave everything to the main dealers. These vehicles cost a 'chunk of change' and many owner's would not typically have a go themselves and possibly wouldn't even know how to open the bonnet. You may have to...
