    300tdi doesnt want to start.

After my Disco has had an 18 month long rest and thanks to this weather, I have finally had an opportunity to refit the cylinder head to my 300 after it blew all that time ago. With the head on the engine fired up almost instantly. Brilliant! I switched it off to address a diesel leak then...

p38 Diesel Auto Gearbox Grinding and Slow to Take Off

Ive already got a PSI? Supercat chip on but its also on 20" wheels which makes it a bit more sluggish anyway. Just had a look at Ashcrofts website and I think £725 for a recon unit is more than I would want to spend. I can see im going to end up taking my chances with a used 'box and...

p38 Diesel Auto Gearbox Grinding and Slow to Take Off

Right, The Lucas fluid made a huge difference, but this week it has started to deteriorate again. So, I guess either a rebuild or a replacement box is in order, so what is the best direction to go in? If I get a used HP24 is it wise to use my existing torque converter when I refit? The car...

p38 Diesel Auto Gearbox Grinding and Slow to Take Off

120k ish.... not much for one of these. Ill try a bottle of Lucas in it and see what happens. Its a shame as the car still drives beautifully apart from the whirring grinding noise at high speed. Maybe I should just slow down a bit.

Yes, the magnet was covered in a fine metallic paste. The shape of the magnet was barely recognisable under the paste.

p38 Diesel Auto Gearbox Grinding and Slow to Take Off

Just changed the fluid and filter in my 97 Diesel Auto p38 in the hope it would aid the current problems I have been experiencing. Ive recently noticed that as soon as the car hits 70mph there's an audible grinding noise coming from the bell housing area. Also, the car has been very slow to...

P38 Diesel No Throttle Response At High Revs/Speed

97 P38 Diesel. Ever since I got this car, 6 or so years ago, every now and again, usually on motorways, I would have no throttle response for a few seconds, the "tuning fork" light would come on the dash and then everything would go back to normal. This was quite rare and seemed to be cured...

2.5D P38 more sluggish than usual

My '97 2.5d P38 RR has been becoming more sluggish for the last few months and now its getting too much to bare. Already I have replaced the intercooler pipes with new silicone ones, the intercooler seems to pumping out plenty of cool air and the turbo fan spins as one would expect. Theres no...

    P38, feeling smug!

Wasn't suggesting yours was a bad 'un by the way, that was just the way I did it ....... and believe me, my Disco was one of the worst.... After that I bought the best p38 I could lay my hands on, which has served me well for years. I just wish id fitted the chip years before I did. Enjoy...

    P38, feeling smug!

Although I still have a lot to learn I learnt just about everything I currently know that way. Buy the worst Land Rover you can lay your hands on and a socket set. Then pester the life out of everyone on every LR forum you can find when ever anything goes wrong. After doing that for long...

P38a Diesel Grey Smoke and Lacking Power

This is a bit of a head scratcher for me as the problem is not currently happening but I am concerned it will rear its head again if I go on a long drive. A few weeks ago I was driving back to the UK from Alicante, Spain in my 97 P38 Diesel with a PSI chip fitted. Some of you will know what...
