why bother repairing the arch ? drill out the spot welds clean it up and fit a brand new arch panel, job done propper for 35 quid + the welding and paint :) a lot quicker than plating.

panel adhesive from auto paint suppliers. it comes in a mastic tube and is for bonding in auto applications.

the lil spring that breaks in the locking mechanism and ya can only open the door from the inside ! spring costs about 4 quid for two but they are a bitch to fit !

but i dont like having something fitted that dont work as it should ! im a bit touchy with stuff like that :)

170,000 miles on a discovery isnt that bad ! especially if its been looked after with regular oil changes. obviously there will be parts that are worn and at some point will need replacing but most of these parts are easy to do. if the price is right get the cam belt changed and a service...

i doubt the series one discos had pre-tensioners and there were D1,s that were fitted with airbags. if its gonna be a ball ache to do then ill forget it and get another dash, but being as the one i bought is brand new still packaged i would like to fit it and get the airbags some other time...

i would buy the standard system, it was designed like that so why alter it ? you wont gain anything doing away with the middle box.

i have a 96 300tdi with out airbags, i have just bought a brand new dash off ebay but its for the air bag model, i have been told the wiring is there even though the discovery isnt fitted with airbags. is this correct ? if i fit the dash with airbags can i just plug the air bag in so they will...

i had a similar problem last year, i traced it back to the light cluster, the side light buld would not work even though there was voltage to it. take out the bulb and use some fine sand paper to clean the metal where the bulb locks into and also the metal strips where the loom plug plugs...
