thanks for all the suggestions ! i have had to retard the pump quit a bit to compensate for the advancment made by the last person who serviced the belt. had they have checked the crank pully they would have seen the problem but they must have just adjusted the pump to make up for the movment...

thanks for getting back. i have replaced the woodruff key as it had worn quite badly and the crank pully had also worn very badly so i put new ones on, im fairly sure its the pump timing thats out :(

they aint as bad as the ones on a discovery im rebuilding were ! atleast you got metal between the rust holes :) this is what they look like now im pleased to say :)

right i think ive fcuked up the pump timing ! ive got the cam, crank and pump all pinned up , turned the engine by hand five times rechecked the timing and the pins fitted perfectly. does it start ? does it fcuk. i redid all the belt timing rechecked everything same problem i mangaged to...

i have heard its a hard job to do but having just cured this problem it is very easy and took me about a hour and a half start to finnish :) the spider unit once opened up has two quite large solderd joints compaird to the rest, you cant miss them. the last pic is the joint that caused me...

your very close to the max rpm limit of the 300tdi there ! im not supprised your only getting 224 miles to 60 quid and your risking blowing the engine ! i never take mine over 3100 rpm which is close to 75/80mph and a full tank of diesel, about 80 quid gets me around 430 miles knocking about...

two 300tdi dashes in grey :) i wouldnt entertain buying a TD5 ! what a crock :)

guess thats that answered then ! i dunna want a td5, just a good dash that will fit the 300tdi. being as i aint seen much of the inside of a td5 i wouldnt have expected the dash to differ that much other than wiring. it dont matter now any ways cos i just bought two off ebay :)

will the discovery td5 dash fit into the 300tdi and if so what will i have to change ? i understand the wiring is different but i can use the 300tdi dash loom, thats not a problem, what about heater controls ? are the fittings for the td5 and 300 tdi the same and all location points to fasten...
