Off-roading in France June 2016 anyone?

I'm afraid that the ferry is already booked so my dates are fixed. But as you mention, you could join us for part of it. Could you not take Sarah's Freelander and keep the 90? Seems a shame to sell it after all the work you've done it but a Subaru would cruise the French motorways a lot easier.

    Disco 1 Suspension lift

If you still have your rear ARB on, you should fit 1" spacers to it to match your lift. Use tow bar spacers.

    potential discovery purchase

The 300 tdi engine started shedding cam belts at 30k when new. Some engines were worse than others, but the fault was due to mis-aligned pulleys. After a couple of years landrover revised the pulleys and cured the problem. The replacement cam belt kits all have the revised pulleys so unless you...

Off-roading in France June 2016 anyone?

Gentlemen, Well I have (mostly) finalised the route. Starting at Le Havre, the route goes, Rennes, Nantes, Les Sables d'Olonne (where I've pencilled in two days of rest) then heads north back to Le Havre via Le Mans area. The route picks up 9 off-road sections sourced from WIKILOC, 8 of which...

    Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, Scotland

Yes, fit new u/j's. They're cheap and easy to do. Also, while you are under your car check out the rear u/j's. Any play in them is too much. If they're ok, squirt some grease into them.

Disco 1 300TDI Lack of power

It looks like you've covered everything. I don't think that a lack of turbo would drop the revs so dramatically. I know that you have replaced it, but I'm thinking lift pump.

    300tdi disco brakes issue

Stick it in for an MOT to identify the problem area. Had the same on my old Disco, rear calipers had seized.

    laning in Southampton area?

It would be well worth you joining the Solent and district landrover club. They have regular greenlaning and visit several off-road sites. Where abouts in Southampton are you moving to?

    Back with a D2

For your gearbox crunch:- 1/ Bleed the clutch to make sure your are achieving full travel. 2/ Change the gearbox oil. (Use the right stuff, forgotten what it's called again, but someone here will know)

Disco 1 The "Everything OK" light

As long as your chopped off wires don't short out I can't see any problem.

Disco 1 The "Everything OK" light

I would say no that doesn't sound normal. Try running an auxiliary earth using a jump lead and see if that fixes your problems.

    Please help newbie

It's worth joining your local Landrover club as a member may have your perfect vehicle for sale. With D1's check for rust everywhere, soggy carpets, oil leaks. Why are dismissing autos? In many off-road conditions they are superior to manuals. Try finding yourself in the wrong gear when climbing...

Disco 1 The "Everything OK" light

Certainly sound like a bad earth. Start at the beginning and clean and remake the connection where the battery earthing strap meets the body.

    strange vibrations!

Hmmmm.....a strange noise indeed. All I can recommend is that you get underneath it yourself and give everything a good wiggle. Check that the brake calliper is firmly bolted on. Also check that your brake pipes are secure and not able to move around. Jack it up and check for play in the wheel...

    Christmas Expedition/Adventure/Day out

Crap time of the year for tenting. Even Morocco will be chilly. Borrow a caravan or use hotels to expand your options.

    +2 suspension lift

Had a 2" lift on my D1 without needing to extend the brake hoses. Did have replace the rear ARB using tow bar spacers though.

    Lifting

2" spacers will work fine. However, you will 'top out' the rear shock absorbers from time to time so a new +2" pair should also be on your shopping list. To refit the rear ARB use tow bar spacers and longer bolts. ( I had to refit mine to pass the MOT )

    Propshaft gone bye byes

Look on the bright side. As your diff lock is seized it can be accurately assumed that it has never been used so your Disco has had an easy life. My diff lock mechanism was seized in 3 places. But my Disco's seized diff lock and easy life soon came to an end! Also thank your lucky stars that a...
