Death wobble and swivel pin preload.

No bearing movement on it at all and swivels are all good

    C reg speedo not working

Check that the cable is actually fitted into the square housing of the speedo drive on the transfer box. It's hard to see and quite a few times when fitting it I thought mine was in but was actually jammed down the side so I had no speedo. Also do yourself a favour and upgrade to a TD5...

Death wobble and swivel pin preload.

Coming back to this I haven't managed to get any further look at what could be causing the issue but I have noticed it definitely seems worse and much more noticeable when turning left and going over potholes at speed, or coming round a long left hand bend and driving over bumps. I don't know if...

    Steering lock

Can't argue with that logic lol. I don't think mine has been stolen because it looks like a bag of **** and I'm always fixing it but it's all an illusion 😉

I don't really want his to look like mine...

    Coil spring issue

It probably never happened before because the springs will have been rusted in place. You could fit dislocation cones if it's going to be a recurring problem

Death wobble and swivel pin preload.

I'll have a look at the balljoint then and see if that is indeed the problem. I can live with it for now as it seemed ok last night during a wee drive about but the death wobble was the first time it had happened despite having had those rattle through the steering for years now

Death wobble and swivel pin preload.

I had the front end up and nothing feels loose. I may go with what anaconda said and look at the drop arm balljoint at some point

Death wobble and swivel pin preload.

I'm happy doing it by feel and the steering has always been great with even the slightest movement of the steering wheel transferring to the wheels so I'm confident there's no slack there. I did check the drop arm but can't see any issues. I found this thread which sounds very similar, it not...

Death wobble and swivel pin preload.

Checked over both swivel pin preloads and whilst I can't get an exact number (due to poor information available as to what that number should actually be and crap scales) it feels fine to me. Pins are not worn in the slightest and still look as good as when I fitted them many years ago...

    Those are both new

Death wobble and swivel pin preload.

Oh and the main thing I was looking for was the actual swivel preloads with seals, everywhere I look it's a different figure

Death wobble and swivel pin preload.

I'll have a look at it tonight then. One of the steering UJs is newish, the other is probably original.

Death wobble and swivel pin preload.

I had replaced the damper ages ago to try and solve the problem but no difference

Death wobble and swivel pin preload.

Both pins are in great condition. Ive seen worn pins before, including someone's I repaired that had no pin left whatsoever and he wondered why the steering felt off 😬. I'll do the left side tonight and see how it goes tomorrow

Death wobble and swivel pin preload.

Steering damper wont cause that but I'll check the drop arm. And yeah the panhard rod bushes and bolts are all new.

Death wobble and swivel pin preload.

I've found so many conflicting things about this that I thought id just ask here. I've had a proper rattle through my steering when I go over any large bumps or potholes which I put down to swivel pin preload. Id lived with it for a while before I finally decided to sort something. I checked the...

    Scunnered with the brakes

Wouldnt issues with the seals inside the master show as fluid loss though? Or not because it's still staying within it. I'll check the vacuum again today

    Scunnered with the brakes

Any way I can test it? With the vacuum hose off the servo I'm still getting a good vacuum (as far as I can tell)
