You can use the nano ( eas/ inputs) to see if the ecu is receiving the door open status, and you can check becm to see if the doors are sensed as open/ closed.

On a GEMS the filter is in-line below the driver. On the one hand it's accessible, but on the other it is exposed to all the elements/ road salt etc, and mine was fully rusted and a PITA to change. if you do fit it under the car maybe cover the threads with your favourite wax compound

I agree and if you use a wire saw it takes less than a minute to make the cut, and then just costs you some duct tape to fix (this is one of those rare moments when you use duct tape for the job it was designed for)
