looks like you have to take out the center consol. before you do that check that the cigar lighter socket is clean and rust free. try cleaning it first and it should work ok, seen this many times dirty rusty cig llighter sockets.

many thanks this is what i was thinking, as i've only just got the car i was going to give it one heck of a service, including the ACE filter, but didn't seem much point unless i changed the fluid in the system too. so i'll do as you surgest, :bounce:

auto electrics is a black art, i should know i am an auto spark. if you don't know what your doing then don't. the mess i've seen some vehicles left in.... hayes do a very good book to learn the basics always remember to fuse the new wiring at the power supply then if anything goes wrong...

what does it drop down to? is there anything switched on in the car? and is the engine hot? ie glow plugs off. i would suspect that when the engine is rev'ed the ecu switches the glow plugs on, this should stop when the engine is at normal operating temp..

an alternator can't charge the battery when the engine is idling and you have a heavy load on the electrical system. so the battery will go flat. next time try something to hold down the accelerator pedel, just enough to bring the engine up to about 1000>1500rpm, and you'll be fine. ps watch the...

sounds like you have an earth (negative) fault i would think on the o/s light unit. track the wiring back to where it connects to the body and i would expect it's broken off or rotted.
