could be the alternator getting hot? or a bad connection on the alternator or the bonding strap from engine to body/negative battery damaged.. without a diagnostic check of the system couldn't tell you for sure where the fault could be..

looking at the Rave the pipe you broke is a breather pipe. is it petrol or diesel?

that might also explane the w/lights coming on, with a faulty diode pack AC voltage could be getting into the system, and confusing the ECU's and sensor's, as they only like DC voltage.

the viscous fan is a mechanical device and has nothing to do with any electrical system.. i've taken mine off months ago, saves fuel, doesn't overheat,

the system needs a bulb at the front and one at the rear, as does the law

one thing you could try to help track down the short, is to undo the wire repairs, find the input wire (test light, meter) and then connect each wire inturn to the feed, when the fuse pop's you have found the faulty circuit. so trace where it goes and you'll find and be able to sort the fault...

you would be replacing the blown fuse 33 with the bulb. so with the side lights on the buld will light up bright. this will go dim when you find the short. fitting an extra inline fuse is not a good idea, find and cure the fault. places to start looking are:- cable runs around the RH lights...

yeah easy isn't it :D that's why i started this thread, cos the disco that died for me to have its electrical sunroof parts was a disco 1 300tdi es. and mine is a disco 2 gs roof lining wouldnt fit cos a D2 is longer then a D1, so just swapped the sunroof control panels over :D so all i need...

oh yeah :D sod that just get a new unit, yes costs alot more but so mch easier to fit and you'll be sure it works first time.

well you have a short circuit for sure. ok easy way to find it is to fit a bulb with two wires, use this across the blown fuse, it will light up, now trace each spur off fuse 33 until you find the problem, the bulb wil go out. saves on fuses and keeps the system safe while your working on it

and switch on other settings too :D

didn't know you could get a repair kit :confused: but seems best to just get a new one, pain to fit let alone trying to repair it too :eek:

just an update. sunroofs fitted sealed wired and working perfectly 300tdi front panel doesn't quite fit. but what the heck it goes on just:D had a strange experiance coming back from Wellingbough.picking the electric roof system up stopped at a service station on M6, this guy ran up to me...

not fussed about the pump, fitting a new one anyway :rolleyes: :p :D

by any chance do you have the underdash kick panels? the black ones around the peddles..
