Resorted to a dremel cutter on mine - with just the rim left seized in the head casting.....grrr - came off once it was in about 3 pieces.....(I did have water and soaked rags around in case of sparks, but its only diesel......:-) ) Cheers A
Shouldn't the thread be titled 'MOT Pass'?
So, they fixed 2 minor issues, only remaining is an advisory (which was presumably on the record when you bought it?? Not sure I see any issue at all. If the leak is in fact something major broken/missing I'd be looking at the Warranty and if covered...
+1 on the column switch - I've had 3 Defenders and replaced that switch at least once per vehicle (I think current X plate is on its third...... ;-(
Easy job with the cowl off (easier to wrestle with if you remove the steering wheel centre 'cushion) - just a plug off and release the locking nut...
I don't think you'll find Brum to Leamington is very far.....but see who gets the top recommendation (I'm keen to see, as I reckon mine could do with sorting soon!). Good luck A
Sadly I suspect you and Thaddeus must be the world's worst Google searchers, but hey we're all only human!! (said with humour and affection....!)
Paddock and Craddock certainly - and YRM maybe for the floor pan? There will really be plenty out there.... Good luck, A
No need - my new previously un-opened can of oil is on its first pre-filter, ready for second run through Thursday/Friday prior to laboratory analysis of a representative sample before bearing pre-fill on Saturday......or something like that....... ?? Cheers - and just remember that all the...
Enjoyed this hugely chaps - thanks........mostly.....
Genuinely useful sensible bits in amongst it for when I fit my 'new' turbo next week (after collecting it Weds.. ;-) )
Cheers, A
Can't say I've ever been that fussed - somewhere between 28 - 32 on a y2k TD5 depending how it's being abused....! Get about the same from RRS TDV8 ...... ;-) Cheers A
Very different target audience (and very different numbers...!) - but if you get decent tyres on they'll give a Defender a good run for its money. Not my idea of rufty tufty either I agree.....;-). A
Just been directed to your TD5 bits for sale......I see you had mixed response from your bumps! Is the £200 Turbo still around? - I'd be very interested - probably looking for a 'collect' price if you're Epsom way (or did I imagine I read that?). Mine is a X plate 2000 County TD5 - good old...
They'll need to core for further reman no doubt, but prob price up without dirty unit going back. I have nothing but good things to say about them from buying a new TD5 head some time ago - very helpful, excellent quality, great delivery/service. Good luck, A
Well, they will fit the rims, check they have the right ratings after the size code. They will be about 45mm smaller so gearing and speedo affected, and I'd guess a rather rougher ride.......?? Others will now far more than me.... Cheers, A
but.......but........the headlight switch comes out without removing the indicator stalk doesn't it......?? Oh well, hope it fixed the flicker - I'm on 6th switch over 3 Defenders, crummy design and I guess the relay mod is a great idea one day! Cheers, A
If - as it sounds - your skills are up to it then the second hand one to fully refurb in a relaxed manner seems top idea. Mine has 220k on it (with a Turner head at 140k for the usual reasons). Yours doesn't sound like its going to be 'urgent' for some time to come.
When mine finally pops...
