    Steering wheel off centre

Or even ask the workshop that did it to do it properly.....? ;-)

    Broken down

Scary for sure (glad all walked away fine), but why would you sell? Get the other bearing checked/replaced as it’s similar vintage maybe, but chances are any other vehicle of any make could have a completely random failure out of the blue..... This way you have your Defender and know it’s got...

    Gauges back lights

Don't think the 3 way switch (the slider on the roof lens/unit?) is intended to have any effect on or off on the dash lights? Don't recall mine ever doing so.....but got me wondering now......! Shirley an autoelectrician will suss it in 5 seconds flat anyway - I'd let him/her exercise their...

A very poorly TD5 White smoke , failed turbo,

Thinking out loud - someone who knows will be along no doubt... What made the leap from goosed turbo to 'diesel in the oil'? Does dip stick show this, or guessing? The bearing was clearly on its way with the white puffs - if its had 95k of hot shutdowns then that could do it? Or other...

Best way to remove a stuck nut

If poss I find junior hacksaw/dremel cleaning the outer edge where nut meets surface can break the rust/bond.......sometimes...... Heat and swearing, chain clamp cold chisel etc all on call with Defender ownership, comes with the package. Angle grinder often second choice tho.. Nut splitter I...

welding - apologies if been covered - my search function errors

+1 for YRM - I've ordered several pieces from them of late, and brilliant product and service from them. A

What have you done to your Landie today.

Bought the mid cross member from YRM to be delivered to workshop - should be the last bit for a semi serious chassis refurb for the next 10years (maybe......). Might add their galvanised slam panel and struts as a last flourish, they’ve been brilliant with a fair selection of bits last few...

    Twitchy Steering....

Drop arm ball joint caused the worst of this on mine - but as said could be any of the many swivels on the linkages. Not expensive (tho drop arm benefits from hiring a mega custom puller ime....!). Good luck - and check it out soon, mine was scarily worn by the time I looked at it :(

    Indicator stalk td5

Despite your name I assume you are in the Defender section deliberately.....:D Cowl and steering wheel off, fairly simple 2 or 3 screws/nuts hold the switch in from memory then plug old out and new in. Blue cancelling ring needs to point at the passenger (RHD). Fiddle to make sure stalk sits...

Defender HELP - Can't disable immobiliser after battery died, key fobs wont work

You don't mention fully charging up the flat battery......you did that first right...?? The chance of the fobs both batteries running down at the same time seems less than nil - and taking out those batteries to re-set while the car battery and security are dead wouldn't achieve anything I'd...

    Gearbox problems

If its any consolation, I had a fully rebuilt LT77 many years ago that I could barely drive off from the main dealer - unbelievably stiff, almost two handed selection! - they assured me it would loosen up within 200 miles.....and against all the odds they were quite correct. It carried on...

Warranties - worth it or just a battle to make them work?

Well.....I had one included when bought my daughter a not so new Fiesta. Never heard of the company (and can't remember name off hand), but spring broke 2 months in, they paid for investigation and full replacement without any hassle at all - so there are good ones out there. Do on line review...

16 inch to 18 inch wheels

It'll be the rolling circumference that matters - so the combination of wheel and tyre.........? A

    John Craddock Buyer beware

Hmm - if you think that was rude you'd better strap in. It's rarely vindictive, and it was a very old fred.......... To your question, most current views seem to be that JC do a mostly fine job.....I've bought a couple of bits from them over the years very successfully and happily. Enjoy! A

Belt, gears but why not a chain?

Get yourself onto any Honda VFR owners forum, you’ll be fighting off dewy eyed old farts bemoaning the loss of gears on the 800 v four engine..... probably me included if pushed.... ;-). Cheers, A

Defender not as strong as it seems

Defender in the OP looks in surprisingly good shape.... Hope all goes well for the people. A

    Defender Brake compensatet

Good ideas coming thick and fast - a less expert one, but in the past I had drum braked 110 that the highly paid main dealer only adjusted one adjuster per drum when there are two......nearly drove into the back of the first queue I came to. Does yours have 2 adjusters per drum and both...

    Need a part name

I do believe it is called a range-change linkage - seriously. If you broke it twice I'd suggest some tlc on the actual actuator on the box itself too - sounds like its dirty and seizing (likely to be covered in crud and some corrosion), then with a new linkage Bob's yer Wotsit I would think...

    Beyond redemption?

Don't think they are ever beyond redemption, just degrees of cost/pain and how attached to it you are. My identical vintage CSW will never be sold on - and is currently undergoing some serious welding - outriggers (anyone want a spare front Right btw - I ordered 2 from YRM - doh!!), footwells...
