    Erratic Speedo on Engine Crank

In the recent months, I happen to notice that the speedo will go up from 0 to 100 or there about on startup sometimes. This happens when the engine is only doing a cold start in the morning. Once the engine is ticking over, it immediately drops back to zero and gives no further problem. No...

Td5 or 300tdi...help me with Christmas!

well how you got it into canada or the state still amazes me. a fellow LROS member just relocated to NY and couldn't take his Td5 from singapore along. so he ended up buying an ex-police Tdi200 here with 50000km on the clock in 15yrs, modifying it and shipped it over to canada. ok, that aside...

    Rev counter for TD5

buy the nanocom. it's plugs to your obd-ii port and can monitor the rpm, battery and turbo when running in stand alone instrument mode. it's all digital. no fuss, not even need to open the dashboard. you can do logging of the engine's sensors as well and transfer them to your laptop on the fly.

    Gear for highway

it really depends on which part of the world you are in. as these items are heavy, they will be heavy on shipment cost too. sometimes the overdrive option might seem expensive up front, as compared to changing the ratio in the t-box. but consider this. the gkn unit is abt 950 pounds but fitting...

    Fuel Water Light

This sensor is attached to the fuel filter and is prone to breaking easily when left on the filter for long. 1. regular loosening and checking help prolongs the life of the sensor 2. if you live in an area where the fuel is pretty good, you can remove this sensor and use a plastic screw on to...

    TC/ ABS Light

check the cables to the brake calipers, for abs trucks, there's another cable just next to the brake lines. might be one of them is nackered or loose. if not, check the abs servo.

    Td5 fuel pump paddy

how loud is the whining? is it still audible upon start up? cos if you place the ignition to pos II, i do hear my pump whining. once started, the engine is just too loud to notice the pump. using the original fuel filter does some difference to the performance. i was never convinced till i...

    another td5 with power loss

i was told by my dealer, that my injectors are screwed and $10000 sg will fix the problem. i tried another workshop and told me the fuel pump was spoilt. it turned out to be my MAF sensor was not working well, that's all. how to tell, you unplug the MAF sensor and run the car, if it runs fine...

    power steering noise defender 90

they all make a lil noise especially when turning the wheel when stationary. nothing to worry abt. was like that when i got my 02 Td5. i also tried a new one when my fellow LROS member just got one off the line. but yes, do check the fluids and top them up if needed. after topping up if it...

    New Defender

i believe so. sometimes it's not so much of the problems that bug me, it's the dealership that really ****es me off. i had the oil in the wiring harness, but i caught it early. the dealership even told me it's not a problem!! so i just paid SG$120 and fixed it, headlight switch melted as...

    transfer box input gear?

think that there are 3 gears to replace in the t-box. if you can DIY then it will be ok, or the labour cost will be high as they might have to remove both the t-box and the main gear box (although some have said the t-box can be dropped without the main gear box). and if you're going to drop...

    Defender TD5 timing belt/Chain?

yup yup. you need quite a bit of 'action' to break that. when it does, your local workshop will be pretty happy to help you fix it and after that, he'd be able to afford a holiday!!

    Defender with overdrive

in theory, it does give 20 gears. but in reality it doesn't. the unit is a gkn overdrive which is about 1k pounds for a new one. if you read the manual carefully, the OD unit will disengage itself when the speed falls below set km/h. i can't remember what it is. so you can never get it to give...

    hand brake light

the light doesn't go out on mine, until i push the hand brake fully down and adjust the rubber boot on it to keep it down. it does flicker when i'm off roading cos the handbrake handle does move a lil at time. Nothing to worry about. just the slack in the handbrake cable.

    steering question

i can only comment on a Td5 and a SIII. On Td5. Not supposed to be like that. usually mean something is loose in the linkage or the balljoints are going to call it quits. On a SIII, it's supposed to be about 1.5" of free play before the wheels will start to turn. so it's correct.

    Fuel Warning light misleading

the gauge can be misleading as it's tied to the float ball in the tank, i believe. sometimes mine just screws up and shows it has 1/4 left and slowly it creeps up to the 1/2 mark when i start driving. wow!! the more i drive the more fuel the tank produces!! the float can start sticking at times...
