So, do people here think supermarket fuel is good or bad or same as, say BP fuel? I have a view that supermarket fuel is a bit lack lustre? I went off a well known supermarket brand after I found a load of paint in the tank filler filter. I complained, but the attendant (Vicky Pollard...

    Hello from ANOTHER new member

I did struggle bit with the avatar - but persisted. As for the series 3, I found it resting in a farmyard near home. It had stood for 5 years or more. Started first time when we got to it. The family of mice living in the back had to move out though. having just sorted the timing and...

    Clutch

I wanted to keep the defective cylinders and overhaul them, but the nice repair man said they had to go back to LR for inspection. That made it a repair ubder the warranty.

    series 3 timing problems.

Top tip: When re-assembling manifolds, fix inlet and exhaust manifolds to cylinder head FIRST. When nice and tight, you can join inlet and exhaust manifold's together. Some folk join manifolds together on bench before offering assembly to cylinder head, which asks for leaks. Good luck.

    Happy New Year - Almost.

Happy New Year Perhaps I should explain my alter ego? Steamcoaster - not a name. Idea is to make spam resistant - ok so far....When I used my real name on freeserve I got 2000 emails per day of spam. Why steamcoaster? Visit: www.vic56.co.uk - this is where I work during my freetime.

    Happy New Year - Almost.

Happy New Year All. I have just joined this newsgroup, having found it whilst doing some surfing on Xmas day. AOL has banned access to Usenet. Why? I don't know. Anyway, it been good wading through posts and sharing the unique experience which is owning a land rover. Best Wishes Rupert

    Rear Diff probs

Remove six bolts in drive plate. You will see drive plate is splined. I think there is a lock nut to remove too - but if you leave this on you should be able to withdraw half shaft. Having carried out some stress analysis on a Landy axle at University too long ago, I can say that the shafts...

    Hello from ANOTHER new member

I eased my wife into Land Rovers gently - first bought a Freelander. Then when James was born, Freelander not big enough to carry pram.... So we now have nice TD5 Defender Station Wagon to keep the military Series 3 company. I have to say that the S3 has been more reliable than TD5. There...

    Clutch

Clutch master cylinder. Our TD5 Defender has just eaten 2 master cylinders within the last 2 months. First one failed with all the symptoms described. Initially, wife complained of leak in footwell - this turned out to be clutch fluid. Cylinder replaced by Land Rover under warranty :) ...

    series 3 timing problems.

I've just been to hell and back with timing on a series 3 petrol. Consequently, I now know much more than I did. Other experts may disagree, but here goes: I think 6 deg ATDC is too far retarded. The popping is unburnt fuel being combusted on its way out down the exhauste pipe. You might even...

    Wet carpet

Land Rovers are built with leaks. The series Land Rovers have holes in the floor to let it out. Seriously, make sure all drain holes in wing under bonnet are clear of leaves etc as these can cause water to build up and then flood in.
