Series 2a & 3 Brake Wheel cylinders, other uses

I found a wheel cylinder and verniers... This is a bit off topic. I am trying to locate some wheel cylinders to adapt to fit my 1937 Lancia Aprilia. The rear s2a & 3 seem to be 25.4mm (1") but I would like to know some other dimensions, if a member has an old one lying around could you please...

    can't get 3rd or 4th gear

Could it by the synchro unit? I had a similar experience - unable to get 3rd or 4th gear. When I drained the oil from the main box some bits of detent spring fell out. Not sure about the selector issues - but worth a look and I bow to the knowledge of others.

    Major surgery

I agree. I have a spare engine in the garage - c/w starter motor and carb. No obvious defects and is there as a standby for when the leak on my current runner gets too bad.

Newbie - Series 3 brakes and steering

If you have a short wheelbase land rover - probably NOT servo assisted. Also, on short wheelbases, drums, shoes and backplates are smaller diameter. A long wheelbase should have the larger diameter drums, shoes and backplates. In neither case do the brakes 'perform' anything like a modern...

    New Owner Seeking Advice

carb - best get it overhauled in my view. Be like a new truck when done. £80. Fan - Either get kenlowe wired properly with thermostat and remove viscous/engine driven fan or keep engine fan and dump kenlowe. My view is keep the vehicle original and keep engine driven fan. Savings only...

    has my head gasket gone?

My S3 has had the same issue. I concluded that it was some condensation on the inside of the oil filler pipe. When engine runs it runs warm. The inlet manifold is connected to the sump to maintain it at negative pressure to reduce emissions of HCs. Any HC vapour being taken from thhe sump...

    ser3 wont start

On the bulkhead, engine side approx in the middle is the starter solenoid. Its a crappy Lucas component. it has threaded copper terminals on it overwhich are the cable lugs which take cable to starter motor. On my S3, the nuts securing the lugs has rotted after 26 years as they were made of...

    Replacing a Petrol Tank

you will need nuts and bolts all round to fix tank. You will also need to grind off old nuts and bolts. The tank mounting is a pig and is best drilles out.

    Waterproofing 2.25 petrol

Fit a wading plug into the threaded hole in the bellhousing. Don't forget to take out when done else oil from box or engine will fill bell housing and spoil the clutch. I keep my plug in a sandwich tin with sapre light bulbs and fuses.

    Screw on brake drum

Warm up screw with blow torch. Use big flat screw driver and lean on it to engage with slot. Use some molegrips on flat of screw driver to give you more leverage. If this does not work you will need to drill it out.

    Series IIA 88inch Driveablility

I get 18.98mpg. The 0.98 is important as its almost a whole mile. The brakes are crap - but I've got used to them. Use the gears and engine as a brake. Its not a saloon car thats for sure. When I get the chance to drive the odd hire car from time to time, its like driving a go cart. The...

    lightweights

it is with some irony that the ligthweights are actually heavier than a conventional shortwheelbase landy. They become lighter only by taking bits off.
