    Books on automotive electricals

until you get into electronics and computer controled windows, its all pretty basic. if you can read a wiring diagram a hour or two with a haynes manual from a 70s vehicle and the backs of several envelopes will give you all the basic wiring you need i still delve into my 66 cortina manual if...

    Hi or low range

oh dear... before we get any more crap its quite simple more engine revs = more torque(turning force)= more wheel spin on slippery surfaces use highest gear that the engine will pull at minimum smooth revs. revs. on a flat smooth road on ice , stick it in low 1, diff locked , rev...

    RIP my poor disco :/

before you start a refurb just make a sensible estimate of the time it will take, then double it and be realistic about whether you have the time to commit to it., same with the costings. whilst anything is physically possible if you have the time , money and skills its not the right...

    Easier cold starting

glow plugs should only stay on for less than a minute after a cold start. tis worth replacing the fuel filter if it ait been done lately...cold start needs more diesel ... thats why full throttle helps. cranking speed on the starter motor is a big factor....just turning over on a cold morning...

    RIP my poor disco :/

sold my rusted out 200tdi disco on fleabay...got over 600 for it... engine is going into a fender aparently, add on the grand estimate for the welding and its a good wedge to look for a replacement .....the wifes picasso seems ok so far in our snow

Just broken down would like a bit advice

probably one of the cv joints, jack the front up on axle stands , take the diff filler plug out and rotate one of the front wheels.... the one thats broke wont turn anything in the diff..... if they both turn bits in the diff but the propshaft dont try and turn the diff is bust.

    rear heater

you got masses of waste heat from the engine...either in the cooling water or the exhaust gasses. plumb a second heater rad in parallel with the cab heater, or somehow divert some of the airflow through the existing heater direct to the rear. perhaps a duct fittd over the existing floor...

How to use diff box properly?

How to use diff box properly?

what jm said isv essentially correct but probably not crystal clear the high and low is a two speed gear behind the main gearbox.... low reduces all speeds in the main gearbox, use low when you want more power (higher enginerevs) at low groundspeed, useful reversing a heavy trailer for...
