    How should the clutch feel?!

My clutch has always been quite heavy, such that my mrs will not drive it ( hence not fixed it yet !!) but its never got any worse in 3 years....or better. All ive done is change the fluid which helped a little bit but not much. Might pencil it in as next job. I know its a common fault in these...

DIY tips needed, rear diff seals, mounts and rear window

Your driveshaft seal method is the unofficially approved method and the same one I'll be using soon!! Think I would do all diff mounts while at it. Had varying degrees of success with the window regularor repair kits I.e., used them a few times but when came to do front passenger door reently, I...

    TD4 Poor handbrake

Does sound like you need cable adjustment if brake pedal feels firm enough. Personally I dont like adjusting such things without doinf a bif of a clean up first just to be sure theres nothing sticking as the levers within the drum are quite bad for becoming stuck. General practise is to take up...

Advice on buying a Disco 3 or 4

From what ive been led to believe, the earliest ones had the gubins fitted but without the linkage, then around 2001 to 2003 I think they didnt have anything, and last couple of years was re-instated. Mines a 2001, has the diff lock fitted to transfer box but without linkage. I am currently...

    bubbling window rubbers

hardly no brakes after fitting stainless hoses

Silly question but where did you source these hoses from? Assuming they are stainless steel braided? Is it possible the internal tube is swelling under pressure?

    freelander1 td4 rear drums to disc ???

+1 recently overhauled my own drum brakes having left it in the hands of numpties over the last few years having had regualr problems with sticking, grinding etc. Now have no probs, they work perfectly and all it took was a bit of time and effort.

    ACE or Not

Welcome......it is expensive to do the ACE removal if you pay someo e else to do it but its a lot more expensive to keep it if you have to start replacing all the pipes and seals, generally if one pipe is gone, the rest arent far behind, (check the rest of them) and in that scenario you may be...

    Gearbox problem

I definetely wouldnt agree with that diagnosis. If the noise was still there after removing the prop then you could say its possibly a gearbox problem. If the noise is gone with the prop off..............its the prop. I would say your original guess of vcu support bearing would be correct...

    TD5 MAP sensor

Just a thought on the crank TV damper. Not sure of a typical lifespan mileage wise but it is a common failure. It can be damaged by other drive pulleys being tight. Typically causes a rattle at idle/low rpm and when increasing/reducing engine speed. Your slight vibration could be just the start...

    Td5 power steering noises

Could be a wheel bearing causing the grief. A mate of mine had almost identical problem with his disco. As jamesmartin says disconnecting drag link will go a long way towards identifying the source of the problem as additinal load on the steering from any source will cause it to groan and moan.

    All New Black smoke +MIL

+1 fantastic machine....only it likes attention. Listen for whistling/whooshing noises when accelerating which point towards split hose. Your symptoms may also suggest dirty crankcase breather filter....common problem and easy to sort....do a search and youll find plenty info. Another...

    opinions on waxoyl treatment?

I actually got on ok with the spray cans, with zero mess probably they dont do as industrial a job as a full blown compressor and gun set but its been ok for me, as for wire brushing, its ok.....for the bits you can get to but the bits you cant are the bits that are going to rot. Hammer off the...

    clunky back end

It could be a number of things but should be able to narrow it down by getting under and shoving things around a bit. Subframe mount is a common one but keep in mind you not looking for a crack, its a loose subframe mounting bolt that generally gives it away, or a visible clearance between the...

    Garage b**gered up my gearbox

Agreed, push them to fix it as above, failing that, jamesmartins info above should be easy to do. Hmm food for thought, im going to get a new clutch on mine when I get home.....(working at sea just now) and had pretty much decided to get a garage to do it as I be busy with new baby....now im not...
