Caliper guide pin bolts for 2000 onwards.

Ive tried to look this up but seems the right answer was never given but someone must have done this. I want to change the bolts on my 2003 td4 which secure the caliper to the ends of the sliding/guide pins as the heads on mine are gettin fooked due to rust. I picked up part SYG000010 from...

So..for closure on this issue in case a similar thing happens to anyone else. Went through things one at a time to try to pinpoint problem. All caliper slides were cleaned and regreased, no damage found and all free to slide. No difference on test rub, near side brake getting much hotter than...

Knocking from rear driver side arch

+1, filter or assembly could be loose, as exhaust tailpipe also passes through this side then any resonance in this area could becausing fuel pump or filter to rattle.

    4x4 or not

+1 on that, a temporary donor prop shaft known to be in good order would be extremely useful. Under the circumstances, I unerstand you reasons for taking the car on but short of obtaining the donor prop, probably best just to live with it. You could look out for a cheap prop shaft on ebay and...

    Vibration

A noticeable vibration thats throwing up the 3 amigos is more likely to be from a wheel bearing than prop shaft. Have you already proven bad prop shaft beaings? If not iwould start with checking your wheels, jack up one corner at a time and see if you can pickup any play in bearings.

    Rythmic thud at 70mph...weird

I plan to take out piston tomorrow and check. There were no issues before changing out other than the pads being worn and slight scraping due to corrosion on disk outer circumference. No problems with overheating. Since I changed discs and pads the nearside been hot after runs...hotter than...

    Rythmic thud at 70mph...weird

Interesting info thanks, pondering whether to order overhaul kit or just get a new caliper. Sliding pins were free when I put new discs and pads in so looks likely piston/seals.

    Rythmic thud at 70mph...weird

Thanks for your info. Just done another check and its the brakes. I though i was having bedding in issues but it seemsive got a sticky caliper thats not retracting. The nearside disc is heating up and warping. The thudding started about 2 or 3 mins after getting to 70mph then when I touched the...

How to identify a GKN prop shaft bearing?

Be interesting to see where you are after a year. The ones I just removed were only on for 11 months and less than 5000 miles. When you consider the originals had done 110k miles and 11years and were still ok then you can see how lifespan can vary. The bearings certainly shouldnt end up being a...

3 amigos reset after shuttle valve mod

Lol, yeh..I brought up the point as I did the splice in originally leaving the multi plug connection in circuit and got some very strange readings on multi meter. Your drawing was very helpful in clearing my head.

How to identify a GKN prop shaft bearing?

I will make a point of finding out later and let you know. If i can get one out and get details then at least it would be a start. The pics of the fag bearings you posted, and which i should receive today, have details marked on them but the ones i had fitted dont seem to have anything.

How to identify a GKN prop shaft bearing?

Heres a couple of pics of the bearings i just removed. I was a bit concerned when my local garage who pressed the old ones off for me asked me why i was removing them as they seemed ok. I definitely felt they were a little rough so i removed the seals to have a look. You can see by the corrosion...

How to identify a GKN prop shaft bearing?

No not something I would do as once the seals are removed they wont seal properly again after and will suffer from ingress of water/dust. You're right in assuming they are greased inside, prior to sealing. This is the reason we dont heat them on our Induction heaters before fitting, as the...
