    Heating is a bit cool

My temp gauge reliably hangs at the half way point now since I replaced the thermostat. The heater is still fairly poor, but much better than it was prior to replacement. Can't think of a time the fans have ever kicked either tho.

Presumably it's a Td4 if your profile is to be believed? If so, here's how I did mine... http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/td4-thermostat-replacement-way-do-166331.html Not the easiest of jobs, but doable with time and patience.

Are we playing guess the engine here or would you care to enlighten us? It makes rather a lot of difference;)

    my first home TD4 service

Procedure wise, that's an oil change in a nutshell. The oil filter is the paper cartridge type (looks like a small, cylindrical air filter) and I never fill the housing with oil first. You need a biggish socket to undo the housing. 35mm, possibly. Can't remember off the top of my head. Use the...

    TD4 leak back query

They'll do a leak back test pretty quickly and that will be a straight yes or no regarding one or more knackered injectors. That seems a good price for an injector. I paid about 200 quid for a new one. Plus fitting, as I didnt fancy wrestling it out of the head on my drive in the snow in January...

    TD4 leak back query

Yes, good luck. Mind you, an injector isn't cheap and they can be swines to remove  Should be cheaper than a new HP pump tho ;)

    TD4 leak back query

No. HP = High Pressure. That's the diesel injection pump that pressurises the fuel prior to it reaching the injectors. It's attached to the engine and rather expensive to replace, I would imagine. The one behind the battery (or in the rear wheel arch on later models) and the one in the tank are...

    TD4 leak back query

Don't know, but I had this problem a couple of years ago. After proving it wasn't the camshaft or crankshaft sensors I did a leak back test and found that one injector was knackered. It only ever caused a problem when the engine was warm tho.

    Td4 crankcase breather

No extra parts required. All the gaskets are supplied with the breather. I'd still have a root around for old threads on this tho. Something in the back of my mind is telling me that some folks needed to modify the filter a little to get it to fit. It's going back a while so I could be wrong.

    2005 Fuel Pump Worries

I believe this part is also used on a RR. Spotted this a while back when both my pumps failed. I have one under the bonnet and the in-tank one, so an older setup to yours. Get a new OEM one. Terrain Vehicles are down near me. Used them quite a bit over the years so I can vouch for them if you...

Yet another TD4 that dosent like starting

+1 Injector/s most likely. Do a leakback test. You'll probably find one or more are at fault.

    Drop links

Yep. That's it. Not "forge" after all. Close tho:) Nice one, thanks for that. Well thought through, despite my crap clue:D

    Drop links

Does anyone know of a make of drop link with the word "forge" somewhere in the manufacturer's name? Having been through numerous crap makes over years that only last 1yr tops I went for these ones as someone in this section recommended them. That was nearly two years ago and they are just...

Sorry, only just seen your PM. Yes, I am starting to smile now. Particularly after Saturday's result against Leeds. Cracking game! Away at Birmingham tomorrow. Would be good if we could do them as well. Depends if they bounce back from a 2-0 defeat at Reading or not and we don't have a wobble...

    Intermittent STARTING PROBLEM

Assuming your LP fuel pump/s are running, it's most likely the camshaft sensor or a dodgy injector. Take your camshaft sensor off (piece of cake - one bolt, one connector) and put it in the fridge for while. When cold, replace it and see if it starts then. If it's still playing up then it's...

loud alarming clunking noise when under load

If you're happy taking the prop off you'll be fine replacing the IRD. OK, it's a long job, but doable for someone handy. An IRD and new VCU may set you back a grand, but it's cheaper than a new vehicle;)
  18. Creeeg

loud alarming clunking noise when under load

Yep. Worth taking the prop off for a test tho. If the IRD's failed it'll have to come off anyway:rolleyes:

loud alarming clunking noise when under load

Er, they're torx one end with hex nuts on the other end I think. The 6 bolts go through the coupling with three crescent shaped washers on the hex end side.

    Torx sizes

Yep, well respected on here for VCUs. Have a look around for Hippo's thread that shows his ramps. Essentially 4 big chunks of timber with slopes on the front. It means you can drive all 4 wheels on and get the vehicle evenly in the air. May not be what you're after, but worth a look if you...
