    Steering

Maybe dodgy bearings on the swivel pins?

What have you done to your Landie today.

Replaced my swivel balls, seals and front wheel bearings. Those 6 bolts that hold the swivel on were an absolute pain to get undone! Most complicated repair I've done do far :)

    De- Muffler.....?

I put a straight through midpipe on my TD5 and it didn't really make it any louder, just purrs at the back end a bit more now. Went a bit faster too

    Masai tinted windows

I got mine fitted at a local garage for 40£ per window and they did a bloody good job of it as well. Mine were just replacing old clear windows but the Masai ones were slightly bigger so they had to recut the hole anyway.

    Fuels!

Always seem to get better MPG with BP diesel compared to cheaper supermarket stuff

    SW to van

I think even if you convert it you will have trouble because it will still be classed as a station wagon on all the documents. I'm 18 and have a van that had windows put in the back and my insurance classed it as a van.

    Defender 2004 - fan problem

There are a vast array of three speeds. Off, being blown at by an asthmatic and loud. All of which are located in the last inch of travel on the speed selector...

Help! Is this normal on a 90?

If its leaking from there it could be the diesel pressure regulator which is quite a common fault on TD5s apparently.

    Previous owner didn't have a clue !!!

Mine had white silicone sealant around literally every joint. Also siliconed all around the door seals when it was just the actual door seals that needed changing to stop the leaks. Holes in the rear tub for the seating mounts which look like they were drilled with a very blunt drill bit...

    sprung a leak!

Nah easy you just unbolt the bolts inside the cabin and it comes off easily. The gaskets were only £1 from Rimmer bros as well

    sprung a leak!

I managed to fix my leak in what sounds like a similar place by replacing the gaskets between the windscreen frame bracket and the screen. I replaced the door seals at the same time and this seemed to fix it.

Difference between defender 'car' and defender 'van' body types

I'm 18 with a 90 TD5 that is classed as a light goods vehicle with the NFU for 3500. Mine was a van but got converted by the previous owner. Its still classed as an LGV so maybe thats something you could do. Having windows in the back is pretty helpful

Flushing and cleaning silt from inside of Defender chassis

I've had this exact thought. Mine seems to have a lot of silt in the rear crossmember but I cant work out how to clean it out. Maybe flush it out with high pressure on a really hot day then park it on a slope.

Defender 90 - pick up to hardtop conversion

I know a company near me called RCV will do it professionally but I can't remember how much the guy said it was. I think it was about £1000-2000.

    Which age/engine to go for?

Hello, I'm just about to purchase my first second hand defender and there are a few things I'm not completely sure about. Firstly, the price range I have seems to cover models from about 1996 to 2003 which obviously has models with either the 300TDI or the TD5 engine. I was wondering what one...
