Help with loose wheel bearing in hub of sons Scimitar.

Sounds like the bearing has spun in the hub. If you're desperate (or parts aren't that easy to find nowadays..) do the bearing seal/ lock as the others have said above but you can also do what I do with a loose bearing- Remove the outer race again and using a sharp centre punch, tap a number...

Defender needs new chasis - advice

That's a right p1sstake.. it does look like a nice one from the pictures too.

Defender needs new chasis - advice

It's really not that bad mate, if that came into our workshop, my colleague would consider it 'a good 'un' :D Looks like a typical Defender to me :o I'm afraid the mobile chap I used to use no longer operates and our welding is done in house now.

Defender needs new chasis - advice

Obviously we can only see so much from those pictures, but that can be repaired by a decent mobile welder. Worse chassis than that get plated-up every week to get old Defenders etc through their MoTs. Garage just doesn't want the work.

replace head bolts ? 140k miles

I thought you might notice that  but I have no problem using B***part headset (less head gasket) and I think the bolts would be ok too.. But if you want to spend £55 on bolts then be my guest :)

White smoke from oil filler and dipstick tube

Yes I think you're right mate. Car was an 'old boy special' (complete with bent bumpers to prove) so engine has probably had an easy-ish life.

White smoke from oil filler and dipstick tube

Head off today and luckily it is just a failed head gasket. Gone between cyl 4 and the pushrod tube. This causes a quite dramatic effect and does make you think your engine is f'ked  Gasket is an original Land Rover/ Elring item; may be the original and has lasted 71k/ nearly 20...

White smoke from oil filler and dipstick tube

From what I've read Daz, the pushrod hole/ cylinder failure is quite common so I'm hoping it's that!! Will inspect and lap all the valves when the head is off though :)

White smoke from oil filler and dipstick tube

Didn't get much time on it today but removed the rocker cover and had a shufty. Everything working/ moving as it should but have found out that compression from no.4 (I think) is disappearing through the top of the head whenever the piston is on an upward stroke. It's so bad that slowly...

White smoke from oil filler and dipstick tube

Thanks both, I have a full compliment of filters and fluids to go into it.. just curious to know if I was wasting my time with a no-hoper :5bbeatdeadhorse5: I will check the valve clearances tomorrow- Along with the smoke I can hear a rhythmic breathing sound from the oil filler.. sounds very...

White smoke from oil filler and dipstick tube

Yup, 8 long years, totally untouched  Any way to unstick rings without taken the noggin off Daz?

White smoke from oil filler and dipstick tube

Hi all I currently have a '93 Disco 200TDi that has sat for 8 years after the previous elderly owner died. Bought it as a project because the underside is very good. However, the engine seems sick. It runs and drives. Starts instantly and idles well, sounds good and smooth when revving...

    Mot

Yup, mine went straight through yesterday too, with no advisories :D Mind you I'd previously spent over £400 on parts to get it to that standard lol. Windscreen was this years' biggest expense :(

    NCT...What a joke

So... are you annoyed that it passed, or they didn't find the faults you know about..?! It's also the responsibilty of the owner to ensure the car is road-worthy.. are happy to drive around in something that has 'faulty steering and suspension'?! I admit, in the real world the...

    Wd 40 in fuse box

I don't think spraying wd40 on connections will harm them to the point that the engine wouldn't start.. I'd say if it doesn't it's more like the disconnecting and connecting of various components has freaked out the BeCM or it's put it out of sync with the engine ECU, especially if the battery...

    Back in the fold...

Hi Tommy, I think your first purchase should be a can of electrical contact cleaner spray! This, squirted sparingly into your ignition lock should sort out the 'key in' message on the display, as the little flap that springs open and shut when you push the key in controls this. WD40 would...

    New addition

Looks like a nice little project. I'm not surprised the thieves didn't get away with it, some owners have enough trouble disarming the immobiliser when they have the key lol. Fuel pump failure is not that common, although the fact it's lpg converted is probably the reason why- that petrol...

    new and very unsure

Would agree that the V8 is the more 'challenging' to buy and own.. As an indication, mine was pretty cheap but only because the eBay ad was vague and the other bidders chickened out (like I should have done!) Having said that mine was only sold due to the owner buying a brand new one. My...
