Steering judders like off balance washing machine

The thing about the damper is, it only masks problems. As I understand it, it's only there to stop the steering violently whipping round when hitting obstacles off-road. If there's vibration or knock coming through the car, something must be loose or out of adjustment. There is such little...

Steering judders like off balance washing machine

To be honest, driving a RRC/ Discovery 1/ Defender with correctly set swivels and hub bearings is like a breath of fresh air! I'd say the vast majority of these vehicles need to have the work done nowadays.. a tiny bit of 'rock' at the wheel makes such a big difference to the drive...

Steering judders like off balance washing machine

Swivel bearing pre-load is one of the most common causes for this.. but it could be many things.

    Hertfordshire dumped landy

Just tell them anything you can mate, you can't be expected to know the exact location- all fields look the same.. but whatever you do, call it in- number for non emergencies is 101.

    Hertfordshire dumped landy

Sorry mate, but I wouldn't have even touched it. It's clearly hot as a very hot thing.. last thing I'd want to do is put my finger prints all over it. I'd definitely had a look I suppose.. but is it on private land?

    Hertfordshire dumped landy

I'd report it to old bill.. that may be someone's pride and joy lying there. It'll be set upon by the vultures before too long.

Do I need to reset adaptive values

I think I would want the adaptive values re-set after that amount of work. The big problem with LPG on the P38 is that the fuel trims that tailor themselves to running on one type of fuel, are not suitable for the other type :( Hence, the car will probably never be as efficient as it could be...

    Damn!!! Oil in coolant!!!

The heat/ combustion spots are quite normal I think, mine had them and now it's back together, has no problems at all. I'm no expert on LR TDi heads, but, those tiny cracks by the glow plug holes are probably not significant. Im sure James Martin et al can advise.

    200 leaking oil ?

Oil must not be above the max mark... search 'diesel runaway' on YouTube :D Before you start taking things apart, make sure the breather is clear.

    Damn!!! Oil in coolant!!!

Is the oil feed/ drain anywhere near a waterway on these heads? Looks like the antifreeze hasn't been changed much.. is that pitting shallow enough to be removed with a skim?

    mint disco

Lose the plastic arch extensions and fit the early alloys and that would be very nice. Colour suits it, not seen many in that grey.

    chasis corrosion

Only you can decide whether it's worth carrying on with.. do bear in mind though, that Discoverys are as cheap as they'll ever be at present and finding a replacement won't be too much of a problem- and it won't cost you much either. I have an early 3dr 200tdi, bought two months ago for under...

    another mot pass

Nice one. Mine failed today  It was its first MoT for 9 years and only went down on rear brake imbalance. Looks like I'm rebuilding the calipers sooner than I thought!
