The TD5 is the best engine out of the 3 most torque, most power and pretty reliable apart from fuel pressure regulator, just make sure you service reguarly and you will have a great motor for years. 200 and 300 are older designs of deisels and yes simplier but not as good in my view.

So roughly 3 to 4 mpg improvement, that would make my 24 mpg into more like 28 29 i'd be well happy then. Just can i be bothered to go out int he cold and change it over. Does it take long to do and was it too tricky?

I'd check the fuses and the big cables under the vbonnect and the earths. DOes the ligth on the dsah light up? if not then check the relay

you need to do the egr and de cat on a manual as well for best performance.

I do miss the auto though in traffic as the clutch is quite heavy on the manual its all down to personal preference, they are much of a much ness and both have for's and agaisnts. I would agree with the first reply look for a good model and don't worry about the box.

I have had both td5 manual and an auto and i did not lie the auto box and found it lacked something but thats just my personal view.

Agree with what your saying but since that trip done 2 more tanks of normal road drving no top box no weight anf still 24 mpg at least its consistent
