What did you do with your Range Rover today

Have had a quick look in the old parts manual and there isn't a gasket listed or shown. Hmmm, best scroll back and watch Saints vid. No gasket so I'll just (probably) end up angle grinding the bolts off and doing a little investigation.

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Took it for an MOT - two rusty brake pipes at the back (give 'em a wire brushing an' paint 'em black sir "wink" ) and a failed down pipe to centre section exhaust gasket. And thats that. Momentary gormlessness found me saying are you sure and is that it.:( As I steadied myself on the...

    Other RAVE

Oh, for having the printed page(s). :):)

P38a brake 'failure' with a happy ending!

I've got Monroes fore and aft and the rides pretty appalling to be honest - it doesn't help having poly bushes all round also. It just seems so harsh, a lot of roughness in the cabin, bit difficult to describe.

P38A Things that should be somewhere...

Hope somebody knows about the metal object. Had the glovebox and blower motor out and put it all back a few months later and found I had said metal part left over - cannot remember at all where it is supposed to go:(

L322 What to watch out for

Having a good record of service history is a plus - just make sure it continues up to date and hasn't got a gap. Any genuine seller won't mind you looking closely at these documents to get a feel of the kind of faults the vehicle has had. For what it's worth, I always look at the wheels and...

L322 What to watch out for

Get your horse booked into the gym (not gymkhana) to get it well fit - it'll need to be to pull your RR. Joke. Geddit? :):)

    Track rod ball joint separator

As said, ramp up the forces with the scissor type and A) a good whack with a hammer will pop it or B) make yourself a brew and watch it pop off on it's own. Pickle forks are quicker and are obviously only for ball joint renewal and nothing else but that's just my experience.

    Track rod ball joint separator

The scissor type is best (as Illustrated) but if the joint is going to be replaced you can get a tool which looks like a forked chisel. I have two, one about a foot long an another about two and a half feet long which is more useful as you don't have to be cramped in the wheelarch etc and gives...

    Engine suddenly died

How many miles has the engine done - have you a good service history for the car? Does it crank normally or is it faster than usual or uneven? Did the engine cut out (like you'd turned the ignition off) or fade away quickly. Any noises etc? Diagnostics is the only way initially if this hasn't...

    wont start help pls

That's what they need, these P38s - petrol or diesel - a whacking great battery to frighten the life out them and make them behave. Otherwise they'll be like Gaz 'n' Leccy off the telly. Getting up to allsorts and having a high old time with you. Force you to come on here in such disarray that...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Yes, I took it for a 3 mile drive, just round the block really, wanted to planish all the surface rust off the discs. ABS remained on. Oh, and the joint gasket has gone between the down pipes and the centre box. Great. But the engine was a lot quieter than I remembered it so it's not all bad.

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Fitted the battery and away it went, first turn of the key straight off - last started early November. Can't be bad - of course the euphoria didn't last long - ABS lamp now on. Never had THAT before.:(

    P38A Electrickery drain,where am I going wrong?

Tiresome isn't the word - sometimes mine will be ok for a couple of weeks or more - others it will flatten my battery in two days. RF disconnected. No rhyme or reason to it, the BeCM must suffer from periodic insomnia trawling the circuits and looking for a playmate.

L322 Vanos rattle? And fault codes- help!

Doesn't sound like valve train to me - too deep and heavy? Like heavy piston slap. Piston skirt cracked possibly. Noticed that the owner at time of rebuild had a Rotherham address but the car was repaired in Sunbury - perhaps it broke down in a serious way. Owner also provided the replacement...

    Overpriced landies

You can't push the seats back far enough to get your legs even halfway straight - siding into a Ranger is like being seated in the London Palladium by comparison.

    Overpriced landies

We use Defenders at work, most are around 7 years old. We work in the utility industry and we use these vehicles to tow generators around etc. It is not unusual to complete 350 miles in a shift and I have to say they are really not ideal. Great for gymkhanas, going to market, working on the...

    P38A Plastic coating inside windows

I had to use carb cleaner to get rid of the glue when I pulled the tint off my front windows - took seconds to rip the film off but ages to completely get the adhesive removed.

    P38A Emission failed mot

How long has the engine been emitting "dense blue smoke" ? How often do you have to top up the crankcase?
