strip the grp shell and paint with a textured emulsion as close a colour as u can get to the old cloth, car stays looking original and will never sag again u can't tell less u touch it that it's not cloth

Personally I hope u give it a sympathetic renovation doing just enough to get it useable and safe.
Be a shame to lose an honest S1 by turning it into yet another one of those god awful 'better than new' showpieces devoid all its patina and history.
Had a 1987 manual one with 68k on it and no rust, was a bit sluggish when cold but generally a brilliant vehicle, pulled well, looked great and was utterly reliable.
Traded it for a P38.

Without the original bill of sale (which I had for mine) you may not get a definitive answer unless you find physical evidence like date markers on bits of trim etc. You'll get plenty of guesses though :D
