Is my P38 cursed or just a blip?

Out of interest did you keep the old oil cooler? Changing the pipes has a certain chance of destroying the threads on it, but some are lucky.. Yeah I did go through a rather unpleasant phase during which I would be driving, go over a man-hole cover or something and just think "WHAT was...

    HELP...stalling issues

no faults at all sounds a bit iffy.. there's usually at least one in there, even if it's just a trivial little soft fault... Whereabouts are you? There might be someone nearby with a Nanocom or other dedicated P38 diagnostics who could help.. Check LZ international rescue :)

Is my P38 cursed or just a blip?

Hi Angus, Those problems are unfortunate, but remember that the P38 is a very complex vehicle with a lot of parts, many under more strain than in smaller cars. It was built in the 90s in Britain where quality control was.. suspect, and parts will naturally be wearing thin by the 100000 mile...

    HELP...stalling issues

I had a stalling issues on my DHSE which turned out to be the fuel filter wasn't properly screwed in causing some air leakage. Probably unlikely to be your issue as you mention the revving to 2000rpm, but might be worth a look

    P38's appreciating?

Mine depreciated by 51p a day from start to end which wasn't bad :) Aren't parts becoming more expensive though..? How're the petrol models doing?

New Member - Question on 03-05 diesel Range Rover and Discovery

On Britain's non-rural roads you rarely need anything beyond a set of winter tyres and some common sense :)

Anybody fix roof linings in Hampshire?

Ahh that makes sense, thanks :) Annoying there can't be such an easy fix though!

    traction failure

I also got that a couple of times when I was on a small battery - once I upgraded to the biggest battery it never came back, which I doubt was coincidence. Check alternator is outputting 14.2V at 2k rpm :)

Anybody fix roof linings in Hampshire?

I never had a sagging problem so don't really understand it.. but why can't you just make a little hole in the lining, spray adhesive through it and press it back onto the ceiling? Does it stretch as well as come loose? I've seen examples of linings held on with drawing pins, so why not glue?

Which RR is the best model, which has the fewest faults?

That sums it up perfectly! I had long journeys to Cardiff, Bournemouth, Oxford and Cornwall, and it never let me down... but every journey had me thinking "what could break on this journey? What's that noise..? What's that judder..? You don't get that with a little hatchback :P

cranking and taking ages to start

Nope, it had a powerbox though

Which RR is the best model, which has the fewest faults?

Just in case it was a serious question :P The P38 (which is the only one I actually know from 1st hand experience) can be considered reliable. Remember that if you by a car with a LOT of equipment, that is ~15 years old, at about 100000 miles, was built by Rover in Britain in the 90s...

cranking and taking ages to start

I had this one: GLOW PLUG (HEATERS) FAULT Type: INVALID FAULT,LOGGED,INTERMITTENT RPM = 8 WATER TEMP = 92 OCCURRANCE = 6 Would that have been an iffy relay rather than a faulty plug then?

    insurance discount

Precisely! Keeping it on the driveway doesn't make it less secure, it's just most contributors to that statistic are kept as such.. Statistics are useless in the wrong hands, which insurance companies definitely fall into haha
