Ok, so here's an update after finding the potential cause of the noise. I Emptied the sump to find lovely clean (metal free oil), removed the sump, pump and ladder frame to check the end float and there was excessive play in the thrust washers. I examined the thrusts to find no wear at all and...

Thanks James for your time and quick replies. Will get some different sizes of washers tomorrow then see which fit best to to get the correct end float measurement as per the manual.

I thought the exact same thing as you but pressing the clutch makes no difference whatsoever to the noise.

Can move it at the front pulley about a mm. I can see the flywheel moving through the hole.
