    Ah balls, so if the mounts have gone then I suppose its cut off and weld new ones on? Or could I just weld some thick washers in place on the outside of the bracket or something? At least if it s the rod its just a trip to a breaker and a few quid. Cheers,

    Thanks for the replys guys, car is 100% standard suspension wise. Steering damper is brand new (fitted the day after I did the bushes). Yeah put back on the right way (had a look under me old mans disco before I put it back:)) Good point about the brackets Paul D, I'll have a ganders at them...

    Gear box drain plug r380

    The way I did mine was with heat mate, only applies the torch to the 'barrel' that the plug is screwed into for about 20seconds and it come undone first go after that.

    Yeah I thought it was split early/late as well but I reackon my late 97 tdi has the 81l tank as the most I can get in it is 83l (with filling the spout up as well). Another random landy thing maybe? Like they used what was in at the time :)

    oh i forgot to say - if you only just got it then check/adjust the tappets. amazing how many home mechanics don't do this, my old mans tdi was crappy when he bought it but 3 hours after i got it home i'd done the tappets with filters and oil and it transformed it.

    No changes? As is your doing the same speed? In which case yes there is a problem, check your linkage, give it a spray of wd40 to free it up. If its not your linkage then you got a problem :)

    For the 300tdi I think your getting charged a few hundred quid for a well known injection pump tweak that most DIY disco owners could do themselves. And buggering your MPG.

    Assuming its a disco 1 with a lockable diff; Easiest way to tell if you have a broken half shaft is to put the car in diff-lock (drive back/forward a bit till the diff light comes on). Then jack up one wheel at a time, with a wheel off the ground try to turn it by hand. It should turn...

    No need to remove head....You can just remove the rocker gear, slide it all off the shaft, make sure you keep the other bits in order etc. Then when you put it back together just replace the errant tapper!
