    Suspension air pump problem

Get the seal replaced in the compressor, and replace the mountings too while you're at it. When I had similar vibration from the pump and after doing this its all silent in the garden again.

    car prices

I know my 98 DSE was £44,000 when new. I'd be lucky if it is worth half that now...

    oil filter socket

Its 32mm socket iirc, they cost about £7 from all good, and some not so good, tool shops.

    Dont buy cheap glow plugs

If good quality plugs are £16.50 a set, then how much is a cheap set?

    wiring diagram

It is in RAVE, look under the Electric Troubleshooting Manual (ETM).

I notice a difference visually on pre 99 models

No, the oil filter has always been on the nearside, the housing changed from 'small nut' to 'big nut' but that was very early on. Also the inlet manifold changed from metal to plastic a little bit later but before the XA model year. As far as I know the ECU changed internally, but quoted...

    Compressor overhaul

You just prise the top ring off the piston crown and that releases the seal, use a fairly wide flat blade screwdriver. Go as gently as you can to avoid damaging the soft aluminium.

    p38 diffs

I'm a long way from my parts manual, but have a vague recolection that you are being told the truth, possibly even that front and rears are the same. What are you trying to do anyway?

    Oil filter Leaking

What do you mean by 'overtightened'? The filter cover should only be hand tightened, anymore and you could damage it leading to a leak.

    EAS Problem

I'd refurbish your air compressor too while you're at it, as an 'air supply fault' is down to poor compressor performance, which usually triggers the soft fault, then eventually no air pressure generates the '35mph' message.

    cruise control not working

Don't you have a diesel? What are your symptoms? How do you mean 'it doesn't work'?

Sort of Specialist in South Wales

A full service involves replacing the oils, not just topping them up! For a '96 model I wouldn't bother replacing any oils other than engine oil, just keep gearbox, transfer box, diffs topped up. Change oil and air filters at the same time, and fuel every other service. That lot with labour...

    changing thermostat

It is an arse of a job to be sure. Did mine a while back and as I couldn't get the viscous fan off I removed the intercooler, radiator shroud (breaking a mounting lug in the process) the radiator and moved the engine oil cooler out of the way. Then there are a few pipes to remove and you can...

    The powerbox chip

It's possible your intercooler is a bit clogged up with oily sludge coming from the turbo and rocker cover breather. Cleaning that out might make a difference to its breathing and therefore the black smoke emissions.

    P38 Diesel manual vs. auto?

There weren't as many manuals made as autos, and in general the manual variants were lower spec (cloth seats!) and tend to have had a harder life - so when you see a manual for sale it doesn't make for a good buy.

    somethngs went POP whoosh

What are you going to do anyway, if it has been damaged it'll fail the next MOT and you can buy a new one then? I wouldn't worry about it otherwise.

    Air suspention gone bang !

As others have diagnosed it sounds like a popped airbag, quite likely after 13 years of hard service, and not something that may not be visible either. They are not difficult to replace with basic tools, it would be worthwhile to replace all 4 while you are at it, at least both front or both...

P38 Diesel Fuel Supply Which Pipe next to Tank

I've always gone by the logic that the pipe running from the tank has the check connector on the end, that way if they became disconnected the pump couldn't discharge the contents of the tank.

    EAS Fault

I take it you are using the EAS Unlock software? Is the received data all 'FF's?

    Auto touble

I'd be staying away from your local garage too, they obviously know diddly squat. The ZF auto box in the Rangie is used on countless other cars and has successfully been used in the Rangie since 1986 - known problem my arse...
