    RR Vogue 2003 TD6 transmission....help

Yes, no need to let the dealer replace the box, go to a recognised gearbox specialist, Ashcroft Transmissions is well known amongst LR community. It's not as if it is a LR box anyway, it'll be a ZF box of the type that is fitted to a hundred other cars, so whilst most will lead a normal life...

Redex safe on Rangey with LPG

I use it on my diesel especially before MOT time, true it's not going to refurbish injectors like new, it is more preventative maintenance to keep them in good condition in the first place.

    Tintern Green Hurricane alloys

I applaude your dedication to originality! Did the previous owner bin the original alloys for a set of 20"s? I would have thought a H&H owner would have more refined taste... I've never seen a set of Hurricane's for sale in anything other than the plain silver, so unless you are mighty lucky...

    Wheel clearance question

You don't say what vehicle the wheels are on? Assuming it is a P38, be sensible and fit OE wheels and tyres. Anything above a 255/55R18 means the tyres foul the wheel arches when the car is on the bump stops, and that is unpleasant when you are miles from home with an EAS fault.

    DSE Smokey

Good old gasoline will do too. Make sure the intercooler is thoroughly dried before re-installing to avoid the engine running on any residual vapour.

    P38 Diesel Belt Snapped

You're right, it is separate from the timing. Check you have fuel going to the injection pump, look for air bubbles in the clear tube; check the inertial switch is not activated, located in the drivers footwell.

    P38 Diesel Belt Snapped

How is it not starting? Not turning over, or not firing when turning over? Obviously with no accessory drive belt your alternator is not charging, but assume the battery is ok and charged up?

    DSE Smokey

That's not how you clean a foam air filter: first you clean it with cleaning fluid, then apply 'special' light oil to get it working again. Might as well put a sponge in instead... Genuine air filters are cheap enough to replace so I'd go back to one of them. Also the intercooler clean-out is...

    TD6 Diesel Noisy

Long run, engine oil consumed, have you checked the level? The motor does indeed have hydraulic tappets. Did you change anything with the last oil change, a different spec oil perhaps? Is there something loose on the engine that is transmitting the noise, a broken bracket perhaps? Sticking...

    water leak

As per the last thread, if it is fresh water then it'll be from the air con evaporator drain, these can clog up and the water drains into the passenger footwell instead. If you lie under the car, put suspension height on extended, and above the gearbox bellhousing on the body either side are...

    Air con warning

I have the book symbol come up every now and again, but operations don't seem to be affected so I don't do anything about it. Perhaps it does need a re-gas after 11 years on the road.

    No diesel at injecters

Yes, it can take an age to get diesel flowing past an air lock in the fuel system, I wish I had an easy answer for you, but when i changed my fuel filter the other day I had similar case and it took 20 odd goes to start it eventually.

    P38 Brake Caliper Carrier

The bolt heads are actuall 'triple square' type, i.e. three squares rotated to give twelve points. Ideally you need a triple-square socket, which nobody ever has, but a 12-point bi-hex that fits snugly will do the job.

p38 whining noise and cruise control module location.....newbie!

You are not going to get much thicker oil than is in the diff as it is; and by the time you have got at the transferbox output bearing to inspect it'll cost only a few quid more to replace. Not that you'd be able to tell whether they are faulty from looking at them... The diff itself is...

What engine type on 05 plate?

The 4.4 V8 is the BMW sourced engine, the 4.2 is the Ford/Jaguar sourced unit which would be supercharged. Of course I could be wrong 'cos Land Rover seem to be putting a new engine in the RR every year these days. Supercharged Direct Injection 5.0 V8? Sounds good!

    come on no one there!!??

You are pretty safe with 12V circuits, it's just WD40/silicone oil variant rebranded isn't it?

    P38 2.5 diesel T'stat

A new thermostat should come with a replacement o-ring. I had the same result when i replaced mine, the gauge would always be in the blue zone, after taking out the old one and testing it side by side with a new one they both opened perfectly, so in went the new one expecting to see no...

p38 whining noise and cruise control module location.....newbie!

The diesel doesn't have a separate cruise control module, the function is done by the engine ECU. There would be a speed sensor wire going to this or the BECM instead. By the way how old is your Sat Nav system that it needs a speed sensor? Don't Sat Nav tell you the speed you are going from...

Anyone done a propane injection fit to P38 diesel?

The good thing about putting a propane bottle in your car and hooking it up to the engine is that you can save money on your insurance each year because no insurance company would ever insure you; and if you do it without informing your insurance company then you're wasting even more money as...
