I load of junk sitting on the drive

How much fuel is in your tank? Do you know if the in-tank fuel pump is working?

    P38 DSE Overheating (yet another)

You haven't identified a problem! I wouldn't be thinking of repairing a rad (good luck) or taking the head off just because the temp gauge rises under load.

    P38 DSE Overheating (yet another)

Have to agree with Datatek, sounds like everything is working fine, possibly a sticky thermostat.

    diesel squeek

Its a fair lump of metal, weighs nearly 4kg, but it ain't worth £600 that's for sure!

    diesel squeek

Well, Land rover want £450+Vat for a new pully, and the independant suppliers have run out of the copies apparently, but I managed to get one from Euro Car Parts for £75, its for BMW 525 and all signs look like the P38 uses the same one. Apparently the rubber breaks down on old ones and gives...

    Chipping my P38

The BECM (onboard computer) does get the correct figures from the ECU, because the box fits between the feedback loop of the injector pump and the ECU, the box does not alter fuelling directly, it only convinces the ECU to give out more fuel.

The reason i have a Range Rover

Did you here the comments on Radio 4's PM last night when one listener suggested all 2-wheel drive owners should be fined for using a 2-wheel drive car in the snow, and that 4x4s were the only way to go? He got absolutely lambasted by everyone! Even in this weather when possibly it would be fair...

    Potential buy (1999 DSE)

When I bought mine I would have got a later DHSE if I could, but then I found my DSE which had excellent history and low mileage, and that was more important than electric seats, sunroof, electrochromatic mirrors and traction control, none of which mine has - and in the time I've owned I think I...

the sorce of my p38 dse oil leak

Anything is possible of course! Depends how much oil it leaks (is the replacement oil used over the lifetime of the vehicle more than the cost of part replacement?), if the cooler is likely to fail completely then this is not an option; so then you either have the option of attempting a...

    p38 suspention help needed

Isn't that an old wives tale? stu_200sx: Why don't you just fix the problem? There's plenty, and i mean plenty, of threads on air suspension failures on here. Personally I have problems with the air compressor, and in my opinion if you have a faulty air compressor you'll get every other...

Why is my p38 heater really crap

With the P38s that have climate control, as long as it demists the windows, if it's working correctly you shouldn't notice the temp, it should be a comfortable temperature. On mine I now that you don't notice the air coming out of the vents as hot unless you put it all the way up to HI.

    Windscreen & rear water jets

I have to ask, they're not frozen are they?! Otherwise the reservoir is behind the bumper on the offside, get someone to press the buttons and check that the pumps work (if you're on your own you could connect a long pipe to the outlet and check it pumps, just disconnecting the pipe will let...

    Windscreen & rear water jets

Had a similar problem with my rear jet, it was the non-return valve in the pipework that had blocked, its located behind the flap on the near side boot, behind the lights, I replaced it in the end.

    air suspension

Yes, start with the compressor, if you haven't repaired it previously then its the first place took look at with EAS problems. Replacing the piston/seal/cylinder is a measly £90 and a quickish/simple job.

    Driving on bump stops?

Depends on the type of roads of course, but the vehicle can get out of control when on the bump stops, so to avoid any incident involving you or another road user best to have it transported. The cost of doing that will be small compared to the (main?) dealers bill anyway...

    BMW engines in 1996 113/136bhp?

There is only one engine, but the oil filter type changed very early, and the air filter a bit later. If the oil filter cap is black plastic with a large (34mm ish) nut then you have the later type 'big-nut' filter, otherwise its in a metal casing with a small nut on the end which is the...
