Word of warning for DSE auto owners

I noticed the same on mine, I cable-tied the transmission dipstick to the engine dipstick to stop it shaking about.

What do you mean by that exactly? Is your charging circuit/battery in good shape?

    P36 BMW Diesel hot start..

Try www.dieselbob.com, that's where I'll go when my injection pump packs up... I bought one of his bobbox devices and it does what it says on the tin, though that isn't relevant to this post.

    P38dse Mirrors

You're right, there isn't much info around on how to change the glass, in theory its a simple process, in practice it can be a pain. I have changed a glass on a Disco II which is same, and I did it ok, but maybe that was beginners luck! Recommend you get the plastic clip to go with when doing it.

    New Engine needed

Seems like that could have been the start of your problems, what did they do at the full service? Not being able to order parts from Land rover sounds fishy to me, especially when he has a long engine lying about. Also as this is a BMW M57 engine you have another source of parts there. Can't...

    2001 range rover dse

No. If you have the low end hi-fi unit without CD controls then you will have to change that, then add door amplifiers and all the extra cabling too. Having said all that, if you have a 2001 you have an Alpine head unit? What I said above applies to the <99 Clarion units.

dse 1999 air in fuel line.

What is the 'fuel shut off valve' you talk about? Are you sure you have connected the pipes to the in-tank pump the correct way around?

    Anything to worry about?

I would go back to the first answer you got from Irishrover, from the way you describe it there doesn't seem to be a problem - of course your car will run hotter on a warm day in slow traffic. The more you go fiddling with things under the bonnet the more you distrurb, let sleeping dogs lie.

EAS wont lift to normal height

How have you checked the pump operation? Have you checked the piston seal and cylinder for wear? It sounds like a knackered pump, it isn't delivering the pressure required to lift the vehicle.

Quick question on brake disk change

You're right it can be a pain, as it can be on any car. 1. Soak in penetrating oil/WD40. 2. Tap on disc over screw with a lump hammer. 3. Cross fingers and have a go with a large as possible screwdriver. 4. Otherwise with a centre punch and hammer attempt to loosen screw by hitting...

Condeser Fans P38 Diesel Temp controlled or not?

Its my understanding that the electric fans are for the air-con condensor and are used for that purpose only, they don't come on to cool the engine, that's the job of the viscous fan.

    P38 4.6 Transmission noise

I believe the petrol versions develop a problem with the flex plate attached to the flywheel, it fatigues and splits resulting in a noise like you describe. It may only be on the 4.0, but check rangerovers.net for more details.

    Fuel Line and tank problems

Take it you have a Classic? An possibly an early one with a steel fuel tank? Depending on how much you want to spend on it, but sounds like a new tank and the associated pipes need replacing. The pipes are connected to the fuel pump outlet with a compression fitting (don't know for sure on...

From my experience (it's worked it's way off a few times) - no. The main symptom is a kick-down when going up hill over 55mph.

    P Reg RR Diesel

Make sure the vacuum pipe (about 6mm OD) from the inlet manifold (outlet is underneath just back from the oil filter) to the manifold absolute pressure sensor (switch located on the fuel filter) is connected and not split anywhere. If it is the ECU assumes a default value which limits fuel...

    P 38 2.5 dse

It could be the alternator, it could be the drive belt to the alternator, or it could simply be the electrical connections having a bit of corrosion on them, check the connector plug and see.
