    difference or no?

The Series & 19 J blocks are not the same. The turbo block has a large threaded hole low down, presumably to take the return oil from the turbo. The LH mounting is further back than the Series, so whilst the later engines had 2 pairs of threaded holes, so they could still be fitted on the...

    Fuel gauge info

It is a recent feature, and certainly didn't happen (universally, there may have been exceptions) during the war. The other myth is that the position of the hose on the pump symbol will always tell you what side the filler is.

    2.6 6 cylinder vs 2286

If you are actually thinking of swapping a 4 for a 6, bear in mind that the bellhousing are different, so they are not a straight swap.

    Sat Nav

I think by the time the Supercharged came out they'd droped the BMW system, and gone touch screen

    Sport Diesel

Depends very much on how you drive it. Mid twenties is probably not unrealistic, 30 not impossible. With gentle driving they can be got a lot higher, but who gets a Sport to drive it gently?

    Sat Nav

I agree with woogoo. I'd be amazed if a Supercharged HSE didn't have satnav, unless you're in some strange part of the world. It should be behind the trim panel on the right.

Hitting the underneath of the car

Yes. Slow down and pick your line more carefully. Freelanders are surprisingly good off road but need more skill to drive than a Defender, which is basically a point & squirt machine.

    Too good to be true?

Yet another RR owner who doesn't know what he owns. Even includes a picture of a straight 6 engine!

    Silly question

No. The gearing is reduced by the differential. Normally on a gearbox top gear (or 4th on a 5speed box) is direct, that is 1:1, but of course on a Land Rover you also have to take the gearing of the transfer box into account.

    Should do.

Series II gear box onto Series III engine

The answer is in post 10. Bolt your Series II clutch to the Series III flywheel.

    Auto vs Manual

Depends what you mean by off roading. The biggest problem with autos is descending steep (40 degree +) hills. Otherwise I'd go for an auto. Doesn't apply to current generation vehicles, auto every time for them.

    Land Rover Mark 1 help

There I was thinking who would want to fit an electric aerial on a Series One Land-Rover!

Is there any real differece between the washer pumps?

Don't know about P38s but on Classics the rear had a longer pick up (it poked up through the bottom of the reservoir) so that if the level got low the rear wash would stop while there was still some left for the front. This meant the rear was non-standard, so cost a lot more than the front. On...

    L322 center cubby box

I think the ones with a cooler have a white plastic liner and a rocker switch at the front.
