    new Freelander owner help!!

John, Take a look at this thread: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/freelander-2-wheel-drive-idr-conversion-115740.html Did you buy the freelander from a dealer or private? May be worth getting some legal advice, maybe from the CAB or trading standards. Its not as if the existing IRD and VCU...

    Door clunks/clicks

My door did a similar thing, took the door card off to have a look at the internals, only to then see that the screws holding the bracket to the pillar were lose (torx heads I think they were), just tightened them and all was fine. Oh, and after 97,000 the doors still aint fallin off!

    freelander td4 clutch

Working on the same principal as above, many garages will replace the DMF at the same time while the box is out, that adds about £500 to the price! Steve

What can do in my new Freelander??

In the snow and mud etc it will do just fine but as mentioned above, ground clearance will be even worse than the standard freelander, which combined with not having low range is the freelander's 2 biggest pitfalls. If you do get stuck then dont be tempted to ride the clutch while you put the...

    sat nav uk disc wanted

Dont want to be cheeky here but cars I have had with built in sat nav have always had UK and Europe maps and wonder if there is a setting or a certain way to activate or get to the UK mapping? Maybe call a dealer and ask them if its a separate disk before you spend money. Steve

So I've bought one, now what?

Have a nosey at the INFORAD that is sold in Halfords (circa £50). It has the Pocket GPS World POI database on it (updated weekly) that is probably one of the best databases around. The unit is very small and so am sure a wee space could be found for it that isnt too too obvious Steve

    Tyre noise

I used to have an XTrail and used Pirelli Scorpions on it. Similar use, as I work on the mobile phone masts on hillsides. You do know that X-Trails have their issues too? Assuming its one of the 2.2 Diesels (136bhp) then there was a recall to address the boost sensor and a few other bits. If...

TD4 synergy 2 most popular setting????

Dont get me wrong, seemed to make a difference with power (ie more) and with fuel (oooops...used more too) but the engine just sounded wrong so when it went wrong I kept it off. S.

    Oh dear. Oh very dear.

I wonder what the turning circle on that is now? 300 meters? lol S.

TD4 synergy 2 most popular setting????

Mine is set up in the shed TBH. Went faulty on me and never changed under warranty as it made the engine knock on whatever setting and couldnt afford for another to go faulty on me while en-route to work. Steve

Freelander 2 wheel drive IDR conversion

Looking at the Bell website they are advertising a 2WD IRD so this is quite worrying for those purchasing a Freelander. They are advised to check that the props are still there by the experienced members and no doubt a good mechanic checking the car visiually will see the props are there. So...

Freelander 2 wheel drive IDR conversion

Although no expert im guessing that the £500 that you spent wasnt well spent after all. Search for 'mondo mode' on here and you will see why. And just to clarify, AFAIK the latter FL (from 2001?) had a different VCU on that was less prone to seizing. Even on the earlier one, if checked...

Can anyone tell me about Freelanders...?

I have a TD4 commercial, bought it on 12k in August 08 and its now on 95k. Other than tyres and brakes its not been too bad at all. Just had the slave cylinder fail on which meant a gear box out job and so installed a new clutch plate and DMF while at it but for the mileage then im not too...

Is this the clutch or something else?

Thanks, managaed to coax it out of central london and get to the services on the M6 toll but couldnt get it into gear on the car park. RAC came out and topped up the master cylinder and bleeded air out the system. Gave me some more in the pedal, enough to get me home and to the garage the next...

    Droning noise and occasional clunk

Although no expert, having read other posts on ere I would probably agree with been rear diff mounting.... but there was an occasional clunk on mine when there were cheap prop bearings on...once changed to GKN ones then clunking noise ceased. Strange I know. If it is the prop bearings then when...

    lumpy

Assuming your asking us rather than telling us.... I have similar and have had for thousands of miles now..... Idle is a little lumpy and when I rev up to about 1500 and drop back off it sounds lumpy and rough then. Once moving though it sounds sweet. I was told it could be a sticky injector...

    steel wheel tyres

I use Falken A/T's (185/15's) which are relatively cheap for a branded tyre. When I first got them they were £200 for 4 and last about 30 to 35,000 miles. Find them really quite good off road yet not really any compromise on road. I read somewhere not to get something thats too grippy as it...

    Droning noise and occasional clunk

Sounds like the droning could be the Prop Bearings, there are two, either side of the VCU that hold the prop to the chassis. They have rubber inside them and do wear with age and are considered a consumable item. If you can get under it, have a look at them and see if the rubber is perished or...
