    Mine did the same it was water coming under the sunroof seal, around through the rotten sunroof frame and on to the underside of the glass and dripping down on to the headliner. The sunroof glass and the frame separate due to corrosion and it lets water in.

    changed the gearbox oil tweaked the valvebody bolts. Drove it put fuel in it :eek::) All good.

    mine was horrendous on fuel around 21mpg If memory serves. They're not economical cars, mix the TD5 with the Auto with the relatively high stall converter + bigger tires + a remap you're not going to get good consumption :)

    More than likely it was starting to fray and come apart, it might be original. If you can't see anything abnormal, signs of it rubbing etc then you're probably ok.

    Su carbs strangling low comp 3.5's is false quite a few 4.6's breathe through SU's. :) Getting the carbs tuned correctly and the timing set up properly works wonders ;) :cool:
