1994 disco, is it worth it?

You seem to be contemplating the maintenance/restoration of a family heirloom. Back luck on you that it turns out to be a rusty Disco. But I think you should see it as exactly that. As long as it doesn't compete with the roof over your head, basic sustenance and clothing, and maybe broadband...

    Cumbria Greenlane in freelander

If I was up there I would definitely take mine over some of the passes (Honister, Hard Knot, Wrynose are ones I have done). Good driving but not so challenging that you can't enjoy the stunning views as you go. OS maps can be used - look for the Byeways which are the dashed lines with crosses...

    Freelander 1 Am I daft?

Doing 30k a year means that you will spend a long time in your vehicle. So you should have something nicer to be in than a simple A to B vehicle. My last car was a Mk4 Golf GTI with 200 bhp. It was great on A and B roads and quite comfortable on short motorway journeys and got about 35 mpg...

severe shudder when turning sharp right/left.

I know you have just replaced the prop bearings but but this is so close to my symptoms I thought I would post. The rubber surrounding my bearings has peeled away from the housing brackets creating gaps. The noise is the now loose rubber being slapped against the housing. Which in turn is...

Can copper slip be used on brake unions?

I generally use clean grease on bleed nipple threads as an anti rust compound. I assume that any contamination of those little flakes of copper in my fluid and working seals in my braking system are mutually exclusive.

    Waterless coolant

    Contrasting opinions here, so lets have some facts. Thermal Conductivity. (W/m-K) Waterless = 0.27 Water/Propylene Glycol 50/50 = 0.378. Viscosity (mPa.s at -40°C) Evans = 2,000 Water/Propylene Glycol 50/50 = about 120 (it is 91 at -35°C) I can't support Steve Flint's assertion that it...

    Freelander 1 Stuck In Spain

Might be better for you to talk to a UK dealer who is prepared to ship to Europe then - or consider organising your own courier pickup. Would probably get to you in the same time as one posted normal mail from Madrid. Put the other way round - I work in the UK with machinery from European...

    Waterless coolant

It's £55 for 5 litres from Demon Tweeks and I am guessing that does not include the flush that you need to get the water out of the system before you can fill with the waterless coolant. Say another £25 so £80 all up. And it isn't the perfect solution - it still boils (at 180° instead of about...

    Waterless coolant

But waterless coolant will still cool if the system is not efficient enough and the temp goes up - it will limit the temperature rise. Water based systems will boil the coolant away causing a complete lack of cooling and a catastrophic temperature rise. I don't think it is snake oil. But...

    lady owner

Welcome from another Freelander TD4 Noob. I have had mine for about 3 weeks and I am liking it a lot. If yours is still 4WD have a read up on the viscous coupling (VCU), there are some basics that every Freelander owner needs to know about that. Apart from that, enjoy it.

    Newbie

Hi and welcome. I am about 3 weeks in to ownership of mine and I am liking it a lot. It's an 01 TD4 5 door with 133k miles. In that time I have learned all about the VCU and done a One Wheel Up Test. It looks like my VCU is OK for now, but it will be checked every now and then. You really...

    TD4 Glowplugs

If it starts OK tomorrow morning (mine only lights the light first thing in the morning) I would personally leave it in. If it goes pop it will start on 3 good ones but it will run rough and smoke like Winston Churchill for for a few seconds. If you want to remove it there are various methods...

    P38A nokian tyres

They are accused of supplying specially made tyres for car magazine type tests. http://www.helsinkitimes.fi/business/13829-nokian-tyres-admits-to-test-malpractice.html They are not out of business but a 9% whack on the share price is a big hit.

Polybush etc. Whats the current feeling about them?

On an episode of Wheeler Dealers I watched at the weekend, Ed China said they need to be lubricated to prevent premature wear. He used cooper grease inside and out of each one.

    Winchester

Only had it a few weeks. Been on some gentle lanes around Wokingham last weekend which were OK for me as a beginner (and in a Freelander rather than a Discovery or Defender). Most of it was flat and just bumpy but there were a couple of patches of mud that I could have got wrong and a couple of...
