    Bonnet seal

It may be possible to unbolt the pedal box bolts and slip the rubber gasket over the pedal and up through into the gap between the pedal box and bulkhead. That way the pedal box may not need to be entirely removed.

P38A Questions for P38 Owners (especially V8 Petrols)

Thanks for the replies. How exactly does the liner drop happen? I did notice that every running 2001/2002 P38 V8 with valid MOT listed on ebay was selling for around £4K. V8 Discovery 2s of the same age seem to be around twice that price. Why are they so much more expensive? I checked today...

Classic Has anyone changed a RRC upper tailgate barrel?

This is good advice. Don't throw the old unit out yet as it may be possible to cut a key to fit it. I had a similar problem with the ignition barrel on a 1990s Honda. The original unit had broken, so I got another from a breakers and had a proper locksmith adapt the barrel to fit my existing...

P38A Questions for P38 Owners (especially V8 Petrols)

Thanks for the further replies. From reading online, the BMW sourced Thor ECU replaced the Lucas GEMS in 1999. As 2001 and 2002 models are the only types compliant with the ULEZ, this would appear to include only Thor types. Are either of the 4.0 or 4.6 engines considered to be a better option...

P38A Questions for P38 Owners (especially V8 Petrols)

That was a reply to saxavordian about the extra rules that drivers in this dump of a city have to put up with. I have now quoted his post. Thanks for the reply. What is the cost (and tax) at the pump on LPG compared to unleaded petrol? Does the yearly vehicle tax rate come down once it has...

P38A Questions for P38 Owners (especially V8 Petrols)

In a way it seems like sticking two fingers up at the system swapping a 1.6 litre 4 cylinder for a 4 Litre V8. The road tax on the P38 it is also only £25 per year more than a post 2001 1.6 Petrol. The only reason I stay in London is my job. There is nothing else I find positive about living here.

P38A Questions for P38 Owners (especially V8 Petrols)

Thanks for the replies. I have heard before that some simply replace the whole EAS system with coil springs. Do you mean that ideally I would need my own diagnostics machine to be able to maintain a P38? If so, roughly how much would a suitable unit cost? When used to dealing with a Series...

P38A Questions for P38 Owners (especially V8 Petrols)

I live in London and am currently looking at options for a vehicle to replace my current 1990s Honda daily car. I live just inside what will be the area covered by the 2021 Ultra low emissions zone expansion. I have a Series 3 Diesel Land Rover that I rebuilt myself as a hobby vehicle, but...

    Tax exemption

I did the MOT exemption when I last taxed my exempt 1972 Series 3. All it was is a single page form. The form had a list of vehicle categories with tick boxes for the type of vehicle it was. All you had to do is tick the correct box, sign the form and hand it back to the clerk. I took my V5...

    Original prices for Series

I'm surprised they were still being used as working vehicles in Switzerland as late as 2015.

    ANY LOCK EXPERTS OUT THERE?

I had a locksmith adapt an ignition lock to fit a current key. This wasn't for a Land Rover but for my 1990s Japanese car. Part of the alloy lock barrel had physically sheared in half with age and use. I got a unit off another car at the breakers and he adapted it to fit my existing key so that...

    Original prices for Series

Thanks for the reply. Have you ever had any major problems with the engine or gearbox? 44 years in regular use is obviously better than many which have been stood idle for years.

    Spurious temperature.

It sounds like there could be a short in the wiring somewhere behind the panel. This is causing extra voltage to be fed to the gauge when the instrument panel light is on. Seems that I was typing at the same time as the above poster.

2.25 Diesel engine normal operating temperature?

I think I have read posts before which said that these sender readings can vary despite them being supposedly an equivalent part. That is what their system recommended. I though it would be worth buying another to compare the readings against the two I have already tested.

    Series 3 Testing voltage regulator?

2.25 Diesel engine normal operating temperature?

These were the readings I got from testing a brand new Cambiare (Italian) branded sender that I ordered from my local spares supplier. These seem to be notably higher than the first one I tested. The manufacturers part number for this sender is VE718038. 20c - 793 Ohms 30c - 544 Ohms 40c - 364...

    Series 3 Testing voltage regulator?

I tested the output again over the weekend with the engine running. The meter needle stayed steady around 9v.

    Cold lower hose

Do you have a multimeter to test the sender? I posted the resistance numbers for a range of temperatures a few days ago. You may find that useful. https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/2-25-diesel-engine-normal-operating-temperature.349986/#post-4653923
