is there a special tool required to remove the td4 oil filter top when replacing the filter or will a socket do the job - if so then what size socket. is the oil filter on the front of the engine near the dipstick thanks

my td4 - its clutch pedal seems to be lower - but no clutch slipping i only do about 50 miles per week as i also have a company car - but when my car was off the road recently i used the freelander and noticed the clutch. could it be the hydralics ? i cant see any leaks inside the car...
