I had the chassis steam cleaned before I recoated it with GM undersealant. The steam clean was really effective and the chassis was spotless afterward. It also meant that the guy at the garage where they did the steam cleaning was able to spot a couple of little rust spots that needed welding...

I can't confirm sorry, but I don't believe the seat box in Defenders changed greatly until the very latest generation. I can't be sure about the exact position of the bolt holes though.

I was surprised to see this old thread pop up! I ended up putting some Rover seats in last year, out of a 200 Turbo Coupe. But I made some brackets using plate and box section so that I could reuse the original mounting holes and not have to drill the seat box. See the thread if interested...

As soon as the paint is scratched off and the metal is exposed to oxygen, the steel will react with the oxygen in an oxidation reaction and rust will start to appear.

Thanks. Will try and find one. They are much easier t' get hold of in NZ than Defender wheels as Defenders are not so common here, and people charge quite a lot for parts for them.

Fitting the aluminium trim was not as time consuming as I imagined. For the 90 degree bends at the front I just cut a triangle out of the aluminium angle and bent it which gave a nice result. The trim at the back was easy as it is just a matter of cutting to length and then filing the ends. The...

Thanks for the replies. Can those of you who said you are using these wheels on your vehicles (Chezvegas, MoorlandBOB) let me know whether you have Defenders or pre-Defender Nineties or One Tens. I just want to be sure given the different axle ends on these vehicles. Cheers

I need a new spare wheel for my 1986 Ninety. Does anyone know whether Discovery steel wheels will fit my vehicle? I know that the alloys do not fit old Nineties and One-Tens due to clearance issues with the axle end bolts at the front, but does anyone have any experience with steel wheels...

Amazing what a new paint job can do. Looks almost brand new! One thing that has put me off a repaint in a different colour is having to get the interior metal painted the same colour. Did you get the paint shop to do the interior in blue as well, or is it the same colour as before? Great project.

Thanks. It was quite bizarre to see a car window sealed in this way. I had never come across it before. When I saw a Series II the other day I noticed the rear windows were sealed in the same fashion
