Freelander 1 Freelander 1.8 replacement speedo clocks

Hi Rob DO you mean the in dash centre clock ? If so, the ZR unit is a different pinout, however, all the FL clocks are interchangeable - ie - a 'radio' type wide display can be replaced with a later model 'narrow' display . you can even add the wide display with radio data to a later model FL...

    Charging problem

Hi Bob, The regulator usually has a final limiting circuit inside it that is designed to cut all current to the field coils of the rotor (the current through the field coils controls the output voltage effectively) when the voltage rises to a certain level , 15V would be about right for the...

    Charging problem

Just a note though - if the issue is an issue with the diode pack then changing the regulator will do nothing. However, in the case of a single failure of one of the 6 power diodes (which is the most common diode failure) you will get SOME charge - just not a normal charge. Rob's advice to check...

    Vibration After re fitting propshaft

What you are describing is not a common symptom of an IRD issue. Someone calling it a 'transfer box' may not be that well up on freelanders either. Of course, anything is possible - but I would be looking at other areas first. Drop the oil in the IRD as the first step and look for a. IS THERE...

    Freelander Project IV (Bertie)

Ali, you can take the boost from the MAP sensor feed with a simple tee. Also, if needed, I have a small OLED display boost gauge project that fits in the original clock housing - also shows clock, date, day . year - boost analogue gauge or boost digital gauge. - this one (the project one -...

    Freelander 1 Lock Issues

Hi Martin, yes you are correct in your assumption, it is usually the fault of the drivers master lock mechanism failing a common fault. I replaced mine with a new one (about 100 quid IIRC ?) - however, you should be able to get one from a scrapper fro next to nothing no worries.

Freelander 1 L series Diesel stuck in cold start mode

+1 I must confess I am utterly amazed if the Hawkeye does not give more information regarding the codes  Surely it does not simply give a code and no meaning  The Lynx unit certainly gives you all info - the software / firmware is from the same source. The difference is the lynx...

    Vibration After re fitting propshaft

Hmm, it depends what you mean by 'vibrating' ? Does it feel as if it is in too high a gear - type of vibration - as if you need to change down - ? Is there a noticeable tightness when driving in reverse / forward on full lock ? If not, then the issue may well be the clutch - either the DMF or...

    Freelander 1 Full lock lurches

The 'knocking' you describe as sounding like it is coming from the rear - on full lock - will be the IRD output crown wheel and pinion / front diff carrier shaft to rear drive intermediate shaft jumping teeth - the strain causes the already knackered pinion / diff carrier shaft teeth to jump...

    Freelander 1 Freelander Tyres!

17" are a tad too large for a freelander unless you want a pose value with rubber bands - or - even worse - to paint them black and add rubber bands (a sign of delusion) ;) there are many choices in 16".... avon A/T are superb. ON 17" - you are really looking at rubber bands that will alter the...

    Freelander 1.8 Turbo

Agreed, you cannot take the power need for a SC from the front pully on 99% of all engines in the UK - on the US v8's - yes ok - for most. Definitely TC Forced induction. Twin are fine if multi bank. The modern ones blow away (haha) :) - the old SC FI systems. Joe

What have you done to your Freelander today

Decided not to fit a snorkel as they are too 'hair-dresser' and frankly - utterly pointless unless you like the pose value - they have absolutely no practical value on a freelander.. They are like wheel choices - you like the look or you don't - as for performance - they make no discernible...

Or simply check for binding or tightness on full lock - easy to do - available any time - doesn't involve a lever / bar etc etc Here is some really useful and accurate info - far more informative - http://www.bellengineering.co.uk/5.html It is good to have different methods - but -Occam's...

Freelander 1 Rear brakes - parts to order in ahead of starting job?

Rob, one to watch out for - and fairly common ! - check the length of the existing cylinders and make sure the replacements are the same !. There are many cases of suppliers providing the incorrect length unit. This causes a reasonably normal braking action but a cr&p hand brake. - Nothing at...
