    Classic car sos

I spotted the air suspension not being standard so tweeted fuzz to find out what they used - apparently it was an American Air ride system. Bit odd as they like to keep thing original.

    Disco 2 - LPG problems

ALways a good start, but more likely to be a poorly adjusted LPG system. The Motronic ECU will adapt to the error short term but over time the long term trims will creep out leading to ropey running on both fuels. Get your self the LPG software, run around on petrol for a good few miles (or get...

    2005 td6 R/R pre heater smoking .

Smoke is unburnt diesel. Your not getting a good combustion more than likely caused by a coked up burner. The units a relatively easy to strip and clean.

Can anyone help set up my timing/vanos

That's a bit of a specialist job as Saint says. My manual runs to about 15 pages on this. Needs to be spot on.

Discovery 2 TD5 Head gasket replacement not starting

In my experience with diesels, if it dont start then it air in the system. Even the modern "self blleding" systems need help and after a head strip then theres going to be air.

    TD5 Discovery 2001auto Vibration

Ive done a lot of reading on this one as I have the same problem. Anyway,, to that end I now have a new set of genuine engine mounts and a pair of gearbox mounts, again, genuine. I would love to say this is the issue but until I get a chance to fit them I won't know. Currently taking the chance...

TD 5 i need electric feed for sensor

Have a look for the fuel burning heater feed on the right hand side of the engine bay near the bulkhead. Two plugs, one six pin and one two. The two pin is permanent live.

Disco 2 Fuel burning aux heater install

I acquired a Thermo top C/Z from a BMW3 series E46 (first mistake ) along with a dosing pump a length of fuel line and some exhaust pipe from a guy on eBay - £140 the lot. Spent a while trying to get it to bench run before I discovered that the BMW units (and Mercedes) have different controller...

Disco 2 Fuel burning aux heater install

Well Ive got the heater up and running on the bench in the shed, all that is stopping me now is the mounting brackets. Ive seen a few aftermarket ones, but really want to keep this OE. Ive tracked down the bracket that bolts to the heater, but now I need details of the part/s that mount to the...

Disco 1 Help please - 300tdi wont start

I would stake my life on it being air in the system. Crack off the feeds to the injectors and spin it over until you get diesel coming out of the unions.

Disco 2 A lop sided SLABS airbag question

+1 on the bags, but don't overlook the valve block in the pump compartment. These can start to let air leak back. Take the pipe off that goes to the pump and put some soapy water on the end to see.

Disco 2 Fuel burning aux heater install

Starting to collect some bits for this project but have come a little unstuck finding details of the bracket to mount the webasto heater onto the bulkhead. Microcat isn't giving any clues or part numbers... If anyone has such a thing fitted, any chance of a picture or two so I can at least make...

Disco 2 Discovery 2 TD5 Auto Gearbox Replacement Nightmare!

I would be looking at the engine mounts. These are known to get tired and cause vibration transmittal . After all the pulling and pushing from the two gearbox changes I'm sure they are now ruined. Only get genuine replacements.

    Shakey steering (not Stevens!)

Likely culprit is the pre load on the swivel bearings. From memory , I believe they should be adjusted so it takes 16lbs of force on the steering arm to move the hub with the wiper seal in place. Adjustment is made by shimming.

    Disco 1 test book

Test book is mega money Take a look at this I don't think there are any systems on the D1 that require special diagnostics. Spend a tenner on getting a garage to plug in with a Snap on kit.

    Disco 2 Mystery plugs

No sir, auto. I did find the connectors for a fuel burning heater as well which will be the subject of a " how too" in the near future. It's good to be back with green oval.

    Disco 2 Mystery plugs

Whilst making the exhaustive list of jobs to do on my newly acquired 99 td5, trying to work out why the old girl is cross eyed, I came across two plugs down by the drivers headlight. Any idea what these are for ?
