    How VCU works.

Yes i know, but thats just a technicality for faster 4x4 response. For every 400(about) turns on the front propshaft the rear propshaft are turning 401 times. I prefer to leave that out when explaining how the VCU works :p There is zero power coming from the IRD -> VCU -> rear wheels when in...

    How VCU works.

Its only when the front wheels are slipping/spinning the rear wheel gets engaged. When your are driving in 20km/h(or 100km/h) there is no difference between front & rear wheels. So 2wd until it slips in other words.

    How VCU works.

When the speed on the front wheels turn around faster(spinning) than the rear wheels. The liquid in the VCU gets "thicker" and the rear wheels gain motor power.

Very nice guide. Did you find that the screws in wheel arch was rusted shut? I have removed front bumpers from a few Freelanders now and i find it easier to take the engine out to remove the radiator (never tried...) :D

    Take or leave...

It looks like that Freelander could have needed some Winu-care. Take a trip trough Oslo on your way home from France and i could help you out with the ECU problem. Just a few extra miles :D

You can get the airbag ecu virginized by a specialist. Even a second hand that have never been in a crash need to be programmed to your car. It is also recommended to replace wiring from airbag ecu to every module.

    Fl1 L series problem

Are you losing any oil? your'e saying you got a cloud of blue smoke which will be a indicator of burned oil. Could be turbocharger, valve stem seals(not likely on the L series.) etc. Maybe you need to clean out your intercooler. Check if all pipes are oil free. Could also be breather oil built...

    Fl1 L series problem

No lambda sensor on the L series.

    Instrument Cluster

Depended on the year of the vehicle. Swapping clusters isnt as easy as just replacing the part. So a second hand from a breaker wont do you much good.
