I'm assuming you mean front prop shaft as opposed to driveshaft, and presumably one of the Universal Joints has collapsed - chances are this will be repairable rather than the whole propshaft need replacing, just done one on mine and the UJ spider kit was £18.00 complete and an hour of my time.

It's hard to tell from the picture, but I can't discern any any honing marks in bore #4, whereas it looks 'fresh' in in #3, are they all showing the same degree of crosshatching down the bores?

Sounds more like a live to earth short on your trailer socket wiring loom to me, or someone tapped off a wrong feed modifying socket wiring harness. Try removing the live-out (to flashers) from the relay and see if you are still getting the same clicks, this should narrow down your search a...
