I would suggest that those people finding 'massive' improvements probably had a faulty EGR valve (common problem), in so far as it probably was gummed up and not shutting fully when connected, as it should be closed from approx 1000 rpm and upwards under acceleration anyway. (possibly re-opening...
Chipping, Turbo Boost Box thingy, EGR blanking/removal + replacement EGR valve about £475.00 all fitted.
Worth every penny for the performance gain, and like I said, I chose the mapping to best suit my needs (towing - lots of and heavy)
Best bet Tim is to search for 'EGR' in this forum and see the recent posts, some going into more detail than others - will give you many opinions of theory and benefit, mostly advocating the blanking/removal of said gadget. :D
Would start with the gearbox speed sensor, if it's out of place (ie too far from pickups) then this would be more likely to cause 'slow' signal to ecu shift controller, otherwise the pressure release valve/solenoid maybe cutting in too early, although I can't see why this would cause your...
Having just had mine done 'properly' (chip replaced and new one programmed to my choice of output) by Pete at Bell Auto's I thoroughly recommend you give him a call - 0871 2884656 - he can explain the different options on the market better than I can.
I can't beleive it took 48 hours for that to be pointed out on THIS forum!!:eek:
Was going to use an Exxon Valdiz analogy but couldn't think of one. :D
Just have a look;

It just won't be the same.
And obviously you wouldn't be welcomed in here anymore being a traiterous Jap driving scumbag who's lower than even gaylander drivers.......:D
Plenty of room on stands, so long as you have decent jacks to lower it down on & lift it up, too many bricks on jack and you can't then roll it out easily. :o
Have you tried removing the drop arm? Don't wan't to put a spanner in all your repair thoughts, but my 1999 one required every last ounce of my 10 tonne hydraulic puller to remove the drop arm itself.
Grab yourself a manual of some kind and get the spanners out, you'll probably find it easier than most vehicles, but being a Lnadrover you WILL need a bigger hammer and longer Breaker bar than you have in your toolkit now! :D
All the manuals cover gearbox removal as it's a fairly regular job...
Mine not helped by the fact the the MOT done 2 weeks and 200 miles before Ibought it - dealer been running around in themselves, too hard to prove anything now :(
