how about doing a compression test on the cylinders?

i would give it a go gav,what have you got to loose i know it,s a pain but i would try that first worth a go anyway mate before digging into the block

you had your heads skimmed before didn,t you,did you get the valve seals done,im just wondering if they may have dried out whilst were waiting to do the rebuild,if you need any let me know

was it a complete engine you got gav or just the block

just a thought could it be the xy switch on the box playing up,if the car has been washed underneath and the breather tube has become dislodged water could have got in.or a bad earth to the gearbox ecu

the ones i put in were a tight fit into the groves even though id soaked them in oil something doesn,t sound right here,i think tommorow im going to strip that rear bearing cap out and have a go fitting new ones in from the dealer when i get them i,ll get a spare set incase the block has to come...

co,durham is in the north east,bit far just to borrow tools,mind you gav the crank pully bolt on my shogun was about 245nm and all i did was wedge a good flathead screw driver in the ring gear to tighten or loosen the bolt

it might be a result of warm weather as we aren,t used to more than one day a year

if you were closer gav you could have borrowed my torque wrench and the crank pully holding tool

just a nice smear of fresh oil,mind it was hard work to get the damn thing back in,so either something wasn,t right,and ive ended up damaging one or there was something wrong with the ones supplied,im ordering my parts from landrover in the morning,only need a new sump gasket crucifix seals and...

im not surprised the old ones shredded if thats the torque setting for them,on mine they are only set at 85nm which is why they were fairly easy to remove

going to reorder parts in the morning,for friday but tommorow im going to set the car up drop the sump and check the gasket even though it was new,then im going to drop the rear bearing as i think a crucifix may have got damaged when i did the refit

i stripped it out saturday and it was back in by sunday t time,put the new rad on yesterday and took it for a good run out today

only took me 2 hours because of a rounded off screw otherwise might of been the same time of 1.5 hours,after all £80 is a damn sight cheaper than a stealer

well im going to take a big gamble,and remove the rear bearing without splitting the engine and box and have a look at these crucifix seals,if it goes pete tong then i,ll rip the lump back out,so it should be intersting,im just going to order some new gaskets and seals up first.
